Hello folks:

Testing to see if I have the correct configuration in my email program.

Don, I wish to thank you for your many years of dedicated service to the 4SQRP community! The reflector has been my primary source of QRP news and it has run extremely well under your leadership.

AE5K took everyone off digest mode for the announcement he sent out last night. The group is in the process of moving to Yahoo groups.

Hi Julius,

I feel for you and understand your concern. If you have already signed up for the 4sqrp reflector on yahoo groups, then send me a private email (donj@...) and I'll remove you from the old list. Once you are on the yahoo groups 4sqrp page, you can edit your preferences so that you are back on digest mode.

THIS SAME THING goes for anyone else who was on digest mode formerly.

If everyone would move over right away, it would solve the problem. This will not happen. So I need to keep the old reflector going and eventually send some strong reminder messages to the stragglers. The information as to who used to be on digest mode is lost, so I cannot just put those who were, back on that mode. (Make sense?)

Re: Branson Report

David Martin <davemrtn@...>

Great news Terry.

Really looking forward to OzarkCon. Always a wonderful time and
wonderful experience.

Even with the wonderful attendance the event has, it is great that
Stone Castle is large enough for the event to grow for many years to
come.

Being in Branson also allows good ground, and commercial air access to
the event with airports in Branson, Springfield and N.W. Arkansas, and
numerous non-commercial local airports at surrounding cities.

You mentioned the Stone Castle people, but it is also worth noting all
people living/working in Branson are so friendly and helpful to visitors.

Be careful today while returning home, the wx forecast for the area is
rather chilling (snow) for tonight.

-------- 4 State QRP List :: The Friendly One --------

Hello from Branson.

I'm here coordinating Ozarkcon 2013,and insuring that there are no
surprises in
April. The Stonecastle folks are great to work with and all looks FB
for another
outstanding conference. They really like us here, and remember and
speak well of
us throughout the year. One of the staff members is actually recruiting
attendees for us from within her family in TX.

Of special interest is that the Stonecastle has a new and dynamic general
manager who's driving remodeling improvements. Right now new hallway
floors are
being installed on the first floor of the main building, building A is being
completely painted inside - all rooms and hallways. A new hot tub is being
installed in building B. The main lobby still looks the same and we
will again
be using the registration booth. So pickup your info packets at the booth as
usual.

The wireless internet access is smoking along very well again this year, it's
fast and reliable. The Golden Corral has been extensively remodeled
and the Lone
Star Steak House is still my favorite restaurant in Branson, with the
GC a very
close second. btw The Golden Corral was our banquet caterer last
year and will
be again this year.

That's it for now, hope to see you OzarkCon.

Yahoo seems to be easy for hackers to get into, so that is
why I am a bit uneasy about changing. Seems that I frequently
see that a person's email address book is raided and used for
SPAM. I assume it hasn't happened to me as I've never received
a complaint about it.

I worked a European CW station this week who was proudly
running 800 watts. When he asked my power, I told him:
"five." He said: "Five hundred?" I told him: "No, five."
"Oh," he said, "fifty can make it across the water
sometimes but it' not reliable."

I didn't bother to tell him that the landlord found my
wire antenna running through the garage at my apartment
house and removed it. Since then I've been using the
shield of the remaining coax and tuning it against 50 turns of
wire on a plastic tube on the floor of my media room.

Heh,

When I moved to this QTH a while back I put up some speaker wire in a
horizontal loop inside my attached garage. It's about nine and a half
feet above the floor and goes all the way around where the walls and
ceiling meet. It's fed in one corner immediately above radio station
through a Johnson Matchbox (275 watt version). It was a temporary
antenna but it works too well on 40 through 10 meters to take it down!

When the propagation fairies are feeling playful a wet noodle will get
the job done.

I do not know.  I did read somewhere that care should be taken when mounting it because you don't want anything messing with the etched coils.

There's an NS-40 email group you can join by sending an email to ns-40-subscribe@... .

Change is not always good, but it is inevitable!

hankdean120

In regards to the move to 4sqrp@..., change may not always be good, but it is inevitable. In most cases even if it is not successful, something good will come out of it.

As we get older, it becomes increasingly harder to accept change. Amateur Radio is at the cutting edge of technology and it's changing and evolving every single day.

You don't like change, OK let's trade these transistorized rice boxes in and go back to spark gap and smoke signals. Hi Hi Don't stop there let's go all the way back to where we had to chase and kill our food rather ride down to the local grocery.......Hi Hi

Ok fellows, let's make the change to this new yahoo.com group and get on about the business of Ham radio. Change is what ham radio is all about. Don't believe me, see you in "Dayton 2013"

Hi Gary!

Hope all is well with you.  We're doing great here in the "frozen wasteland of the north"  ha ha.  I'm still following the 4SQRP group, lots of good stuff there.  I wish I could make it to Branson for the hamfest.  We might make it to OKC this fall, I'll let you know if/when we know the dates and hopefully we can get together.  We live in an apartment building and the antenna situation is not great but our landlord is very understanding about ham radio and even helped me get an outside antenna up in trees behind the building.  We have an active club here, I've been busy teaching classes for Tech and now General.  Keeps me out of trouble most of the time :)  Take care.
