Re: Wed Nite Nets

Viewing the propagation for '40 tonite I'll volunteer to call the 80m nets, if we get finished by 02:30z then I'll QSY to '40 and see what's what but I feel that 80 will be far more productive for everyone.
So, see y'all on 3564 at 01:00z. Watch QRPSpots for the exact QRG and let's have fun.

OK,
To recap, I'll call the 80m nets tonight, no early 40m net, maybe a late 40m net if I get through, of course if there's anyone else who would like to step up...

KD4OBQ

Forgot Wayne was net control at 7:00CST tonight and trying to get used to the new call (WQ5RP) Sorry Wayne.

On a good note I worked an 74 year old ham east of Baton Rouge that built a Rockmite and he was booming in at 500mw. He sure got the 1000 mile/watt on that one and had a good chat with him as his first TX was an Eico 720 like the one I was using.

Now to build an attenuator.

Sorry Wayne

Ge Wayne and the group.
Thanks for the nice check in, Wayne.
It was nice to work the club call again!
When I heard you call CQ with it I had to stop and listen, and then It
came to me, oh the new Club Call!
I heard several familiar calls here in SE KS tonight.
Sounds like 80 was in great shape.
Again, thanks Wayne, nice job!

Hi Terry. What is your antenna? I'm at my daughter's IN SE Michigan wtth my Ten Tec S4020 this week. Had 2 short 20m QSOs using a homebrew Pac-12 like antenna. Hears well but QSOs come hard.

Wednesday evening 80m net

Wayne Dillon

Good morning one and all,
Well it was a fantastic evening last night. a total of 15 check-ins. One net kinda merged into the next, I took a break at around 01:50 (cup of tea and the call of nature!) and at 02:00 we kicked off again. I know some folks missed the e-mail about me calling the net but to those who called me Terry, no worries, (actually I'll take it as a compliment :) The main thing was we had a good time. Almost all signals were at least 559 so a huge thank you to all who called in, you made my evening special.

Here's the list from 01:00 on:

K2HT - Harold - MO
AC0BQ - Johnny - KS
WD9F - Woody - IL
KD4OBQ - Pat - OK
KB4QQJ - Randy - NC
N0NB - nate - KS
WB0QQT - Steve - NE
N9RLO - John - IN

W4RK - Vernon - MO
N8VCR - Jeff - MI
WB9DLC - Mike - IN
WR9H - Herb - IL
N2UHC - Tom - KS
WB0QQT - Steve - NE
KD4OBQ - Pat - OK

Knocked off at 02:40 ish.

I tuned up to the PSK net but did not see anytthing on the waterfall except a signal I could not identify, it was about 500Khz wide and real weird looking (JT65?). I guess I'm going to have to get on the digital modes more so that I can ID these different signals.
Again thanks to all who checked in and to those I missed, well you'll have Terry back as MC next week and I'll be back on '40.

We just got done digging the driveway out from under 11" total so far.  I can't shovel snow with my pacemaker, so the wife went out and started.  New neighbors two houses down from us made a deal with her.  Watch their 2 year old daughter and they'd shovel the driveway.  This young lady ain't your typical two-year old, very happy and well behaved.  Fascinated by morse code and she wanted to come in the shack and sit listening to that rather than watching cartoons on TV.  Not quite sure yet what her parents are going to make of that - LOL.

Yeah Jerry,
Her dad said that was the first time she had ever gone to a total stranger's place and not been fussy.  We did volunteer to serve as babysitters anytime we were available and they needed someone to watch her.  Don't have any grandkids, so might be nice to wind up with a surrogate one.

Unfortunately she HAS already discovered cell phones!  One of the toys they brought along for her to play with was a toy cell phone!  She didn't pay any attention to it after she discovered CW though, so there IS hope after all.

Naw, mobile devices, nee cell phones, aren't the problem. The real
problem is kids being taught that there is a bogeyman behind every bush.
Naturally, they shy away from any activity that involves "talking to
strangers" as a result of such training. What one does on a mobile
device is mostly orthogonal to what is done on amateur radio, IMHO. The
only thing they compete for is time, otherwise, no competition at all.
