Re: QRPOmeter

Hi Bobby,

For the first step, reheat and apply solder to the 8 100 ohm 2W resistors. Top and bottom. If the solder joint look questionable on the PCB anywhere else, reheat and apply a fresh bead of solder on all joints. Apply only enough heat and solder to cause the solder to flow. If this doesn't work, I have plan 2. If you reheat the switch contacts, tilt the board so solder doesn't run into the switches or you'll have a bigger headache to deal with!

I tried to calibrate the QRPometer this morning but I did not have any luck. This is the one that I got off ebay but I just cannot get it to read right on the display. I think I am going to need some help with this one so if anyone has the time to look at it for me that would be great. Just shoot me an email and let me know.
Tnx
Bobby

Here in the Pitts we got about 3 inches of snow on top of the solid sheet of ice and the temp is -1. The good news is that it is a beautiful sunny day with no wind. My dipole has survived, so far. Hope everyone affected by this winter storm are warm and safe!!!

Heh,

The temp dropped to 22 below zero just after sunrise and that's still the official temp. Hopefully with the bright sunshine it will start creeping back up toward zero!

I'm pleased to hear that some antennas have survived the ice.

Well here we go again. We got about an half of inch of ice and about four inches of snow on top of it here in  central Kentucky last night. I guess I will just stay in and melt some solder! The good news is all antenna's are still up and working.

Had a total of 2 inches of snow/ice/sleet over the weekend here on the southwest side of Tulsa, antennas still up in the air. Roads covered with snow etc. but passable. Cold this AM, 4 degrees F, heading to a "high" of 19 this afternoon.

Good morning,

I hope everybody has survived the night with antennas and homes intact.
We haven't been plagued with ice storms here in northern Michigan but as
I sip my morning coffee the official outside temp is 18 below zero (F).
A few mornings ago it was 28 below. My outdoor thermometer blew away but
it tends to be a couple of degrees colder right here than at the airport.

Stay warm and dry.

Well, the worst is over.. it's better now.. it'll be a sunshiny day..

Sun isn't up  yet, but 32F and light breeze,.. slight overcast for  warmth.. and we're good.
Ice is still covering half the ants... but.. at least they didn't come down..
IF I had put them all up tuned for the phone portion.... they'd be in great shape in the cw section...
Now... however.. one is looking real good for the high end of 30.. rather than the low end of 20.
The BowTie..  it doesn't care.. it simply plays...

Best wishes to those with ice... word from the coast is the wind is coming.. in about three days to here...
maybe.  maybe it will mostly blow north of me. One can always hope.

Have a great day,

Lots of ice on the ants here in NETX.

With 1 inch of sleet, snow and a little ice, I don't think the little buggers can get out of the ground... :-)

Ice and snow on the ground but no freezing rain to coat antenna.
A few more inches of snow tonight.
11 degrees now going down to 3 degrees tonight.
Perfect kayak weather - in Florida maybe.

It’s 50 degrees and showers here on Oregon coast with 20-25 mph sustained, 45 mph gusts.  The sand is blowing so bad I’m beginning to believe I’m Lawrence of Arabia.  However would not trade it for low temps, ice and snow. My stealth ant is truly stealth – two hours ago a big gust took it away. Probably in Seattle by now.

Re: WX

I'm doing better.. it was a heat wave today.. with temps soaring.. right up to near 20.. maybe even 30... so about half the ice on the wires came off.. now the sag is left..
because steel stretches.. and so does copper. .. It would be good to have all the ice off
before tensioning. Maybe another day or so.. and if I am really really lucky.. the wind won't blow. This is crazy weather.. the snow is melting a little bit at a time.. the water is running down under the snow... and soaking in.. no kidding.. it doesn't usually do that.. .. usually the wind blows all the moisture away..
Bringing brand new meaning to the words "mud room"...   I think I will have to quite talking about dust under the snow, it isn't there anymore.

So.. maybe the bullet missed this time...
Good Luck to all those still dealing with it..  maybe the wind won't blow before it warms enough.

Have a great day,

Guys,
You have more serious problems with your tall beams
than I do with a low LongWire.

However, I have little Adventures:
I have had  ICE ,  hanging about 2 inches long ,   all along my 225 ft LongWire.
Ice makes it sag more, and I use a AntTuner so I make minor adjustments.
Worst thing was the Lightning EMP that was captured and burned out my Antenna Tuner circuit.
Had to drag out my QRP tuner.

My wife said she saw birds roosting on the Wire, but I don't know.
Never affected tuning.
