I would consider taking them but I have little time to read these days, and in fact haven't had a whole lot of time for radio in general.

Re: 4SQRP] 30 Meter Hilltopper Kit & More

Andy

interesting thoughts. with some key parts like Si5351a PLL's only available in SMD form we are seeing more hybrid kits, with these critters pre-installed.  note QRP Labs is planning a smaller version of QCX with the builder only having to install through hole parts.

I did look over a few of my SMD successes -- let's see a frequency counter to the NC2030 that was nearly all surface mount.  Maybe my biggest SMD wonder was homebrewing a WBR regen receiver (which BTW is a wonderful 40m CW/SSB receiver) that needed a small value varactor.  i had gotten a very tiny sample, mounted it to a little board made for some IC form factor that fit - and it let me attach leads to it.  could I do it again?  maybe.  am I am looking forward to maybe replacing a bad Si5351a on my original QCX (when and if I order one)?  i guess I should be up to the challenge but it might take some patient effort.

some of us have deep enough stashes of thru hole parts, but the opportunity to mount a few SMD parts for a project (on media that can accept them) is worthwhile.  or build something with tubes and real big components.

Tnx Terry for the encouragement ! Plan to home brew an 80m ant along with better ground strapping on the Tahoe.

Paul you had a strong signal at times however, Hvy QSB was dropping sigs into the noise. Thankyou for trying.

I’ll have a better plan for next week. The Hustler is just not getting the job done.

Thanks again fellas and Happy Holidays!

Either take them to your local club after pandemic,  or recycle them. They should be available as full issues on line, so nothing lost. Spend the $15 elsewhere.

I can load as many as I can get into a Medium sized USPS Priority Mail box and zip them your way if you will pay $15.05 for postage (US only). Not guaranteeing complete years as some might be missing. Drop me a line if interested.

Steve,
I heard you call me! I had copied down WB5CTS/  but was not sure of that. I did give you a call with a RST 339 but didn’t hear you respond.
I see you are in my log a few times from past years, camping and QRP/ QRP but never on 80 meters.

Re: 4 SQRP 40 & 80 METER NET REPORT

John - KK4ITX

Johnny & All,

I was there for both Nets again tonight.  40m had SSB @ 7.121 and 7.124 ish and splashing around. .... only heard a few numbers and letters but not enough in a row for me to do anything with.  80m had a steady S5 noise with some QRM around 3563 that went to S9.

Maybe one of these nights I’ll go to a nearby local park that is usually radio quiet and see if I have any success there.

Anyway exercised my arthritic fingers with pushing buttons and turning knobs so all wa not lost.

Wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving !
