10 Meter Experience

Dan Reynolds

I know everyone has been talking about the sunspots this week but the far support on my W3EDP is down so my antenna is drooping badly.

Well a local guy called me on the phone this evening, I think about French Guiana or something - I don't know my mind glazed over at the thoughts of DX...
Anyway, I got on 10 meters and it was a zoo! I think the CQ SSB contest is going on or something...

I got a Mexico contact and then I got LP1H. He was loud and clear. Heck I didn't even know where LP1H was! So, I entered it in the log (I used QRZ.com for my log) and I looked down and it said Argentina. I think to myself. Hmmm... wow and then I looked at the distance! 5186 miles! What? My antenna is on the ground partly! How can that be? Another 1000 mile/watt SSB contact.
I'm in shock. Total shock.

Re: Regenerative receiver thoughts

Looks like a standard grid-leak regen, 'cept with an FET rather than a triode.   It is using a "throttle cap" rather than a pot for the regeneration.  I suspect this set should give good performance.

Welcome to the friendliest group of QRP ops that you will find!
I may sound a little biased, but hang out Around a  while and see for your self!
Your are just a nice 40 M or 80M hop from most all of us.
I live in SE Ks and have been QRP  for several years.
As far as kits go, we have several that are pretty neat, and a support group to help you make Em work!
Please come and join us at Ozarkcon in the spring, the details will be on the web site.
It is a blast!

Re: 40M

Jim Sheldon

Terry and others,
It would appear that it has.  40 is deader than a hammer right now and the background noise level is about S3.  Noise was S7+ just before sunrise and has dropped way off here.  Just worked WB8X in Stirling Heights, MI on 20 and he was pretty weak.  He answered my CQ but the QSB was really slow and deep.  Noise level on 20 is only S2 right now and it's usually 3-5 here.  I'm hearing weak signals at the moment that sound like Auroral flutter on them -- might check out 6 and see if there's any Aurora prop up there.

Need Remote Control for LDG DTS-6 antenna switch

Jim Sheldon

I know it's a far-fetched request as the DTS-6 has been discontinued by LDG, but does anyone have a Remote Control unit for this box that they'd be willing to part with?

If so, email me off list with the particulars (price, etc.)

Thanks,

Columnized Net Reports

WA0ITP

Some time ago I created net reports with columns and thought I had the procedure
worked out. Turns out I didn't, and proved that to myself last night.

After some mods, it now seems correct and I've updated the directions.
http://www.wa0itp.com/colrep.pdf Would someone please verify that the
directions are indeed correct?I need some confirmation by others

Thanks much, I appreciate any help.

I finished building my EZKeyer II a couple of days ago.  Just thought I'd mention, in case you haven't caught it, the instructions leave out the step of putting the capacitor on the board.  I know that's why there are pictures, but I had already installed the board in the case and thought I was through when I noticed this little yellow capacitor laying in the corner of my assembly tray....it's small and easy to miss!
Just a brief question;  when I connected the batteries the first time, I couldn't get any of the buttons to work.  No 1, 2 or 3 cw.  Then I noticed the IC was VERY hot to the touch.  I immediately clipped the wires to the battery pack and checked and rechecked my board and the battery polarity.  I was baffled and assumed a bad component somewhere on the board, but decided to try it one more time.  Worked flawlessly....go figure!  Fruitrons, I guess (as we used to call them in the Navy).
Enjoyed the build.
