Re: EZKeyer II manual updates?

James Compton

I finished building my EZKeyer II a couple of days ago.  Just thought I'd mention, in case you haven't caught it, the instructions leave out the step of putting the capacitor on the board.  I know that's why there are pictures, but I had already installed the board in the case and thought I was through when I noticed this little yellow capacitor laying in the corner of my assembly tray....it's small and easy to miss!
Just a brief question;  when I connected the batteries the first time, I couldn't get any of the buttons to work.  No 1, 2 or 3 cw.  Then I noticed the IC was VERY hot to the touch.  I immediately clipped the wires to the battery pack and checked and rechecked my board and the battery polarity.  I was baffled and assumed a bad component somewhere on the board, but decided to try it one more time.  Worked flawlessly....go figure!  Fruitrons, I guess (as we used to call them in the Navy).
Enjoyed the build.

Hey Johnny,
Last year they served over 20,000 pounds ( 10 tons!!) and ran out 2 hours before scheduled.
It's a hoot to go there and then get to play radio also??/ Ha, what's not to like?

Great net tonight. Bands were super for KS/NC and pretty much everybody. Strong signals all around.

If you get a chance this weekend or hear us stop by and say hello. That goes for anyone.
You can have  a look on QRZ at  N4Q.

Uh Johnny, serving starts promptly at 10 am eastern..... that's eastern style too...... heh heh

Wayne - I tried you both on my ground mounted Vertical and on my Random "Wahr" up at about 25 feet.  The best I heard you tonight was 339.  The background noise was running at S-3 to S5 with some QSB.  But your sig just never was there for me. Everybody else seemed to be up from 459 to 599.  I think my antennas are both good as I've been having a blast into Central and Eastern Europe plus South America on 10 mtrs - 12 mtrs - 15 mtrs - 17 mtrs and 20 mtrs. Really knocks them for a loop when I tell them that I'm running 5 watts (10 on SSB).  Sometimes the QSO's get pretty short after they've told me they are running stacked - 4's at 90+ feet with 1000 watts or better and I'm within a point or two of them for RST.

Maybe I'll be able to get up an Inverted-Vee before the weather gets too bad.  The apex will be at about 35 feet, if all goes well, but it will be oriented N-S, so I don't know how much help that will really be.  With the apex that low, the book says the radiation pattern should be almost 360 deg. with the launch angle about 30 degrees.

I would suggest a multiband dipole. They're fairly easy to build and once you get them tuned right you shouldn't need a tuner.

Just plug 'em in and tweak C26, the trim cap in series with L1 and the
oscillator crystal. I listened on my big rig to put the osc on 7122.

Greetings Larry,

I am a green ham and actually I just ordered my first rig a ICOM IC-735 with the PS-55 power supply.  Now in my shack I am set up; I have a 40' tower with a 25' Solaracon CB antenna that goes to my "rci."   I am confused on what would be a good multi band antenna that I can homebrew.

I am in Garnett, KS; in two weeks I will be testing in Iola, KS.

Need advice from everyone please.
