Not exactly. Yes, years ago you could climb all the way to the very top of the boom, but a few years ago a man apparently slipped in after closing and apparently tried to BASE jump off the top of the boom and was found on the ground in front of the shovel with his parachute the next morning. The boom is 160 feet tall, but that's not quite tall enough to have a parachute open before you hit the ground.

Brutus is not a state park with park rangers. It's owned by a private organization.

Re: Pittsburg Rptr - Camping check in times?

Sounds good Jeremy,

I will program in these freq's to one of my el'cheepo china HT's and will see what we can hear with it. These dual band Ht's with battery, base charger, and external headset for under $35 shipped, I couldn't resist!

I am not sure when I will get there, I am planning on leaving here "Damn Early".. which for me is any time before 11 AM, but I am hoping to be on the road by 8AM. I usually get to sleep about 5 AM when I get home from work....
Google maps says its 6 hours and 15 minutes on the route I am planning. But I will have to eat lunch and
get gas and probably make at least one pit stop.. so I hope
to be there about 4 PM or so. I hope that they are open at least
to 5 - 530 so I can check in for camping..

Loaded up the van this PM.. should be ready to leave when the alarm sounds in the morning! (There is a reason they call that time of day morning!) haa!

You guys that get there early, save me a spot that I can 'borrow' some power for the laptop.. I hope to work in a little bit of digital modes when things are clear. I think the laptop battery will last a good while, but it will have to power the sound card interface I have, which I have not done before!

73 - Have a safe trip!

P.S. I hope to remember to turn on APRS via my 'droid app.. so if anyone cares, you can follow my track as I head down there via the
APRS.FI web pages under my call-4 .

There's 4 listed repeaters in Pitt. The one I am planning to monitor
is: 146.940 (91.5 PL tone). Also listed is: 147.200 (91.5), 444.800
(91.5), 444.900 (91.5) according to the Kansas Repeater Group.

If there is anything that those of us that are looking

I plan to be there.

On a similar note - since i don't trust my cooling facilities to be able to add to the Brat Bit,  I will instead have several dozen cookies that my DW just took out of the oven.

This could turn into a "let's get fat" weekend.  :-(

Some of you may run it off with the kites - I'll just sit back with my camera and watch...

We have 160 yes responses  http://www.4sqrp.com/kits/SS40/poll_vote%20display.php  I think that's enough to warrant another run. Dunno when I'll get around to ordering parts.  Not so sure abt the Magic Box, I thought I had put a poll on thqat page to, but now see that I hadnt, darn.  Better do that soo and before we make as decision on it.

Wish I could join, maybe next year...
But this year.. surprises of rain.. we have gotten 2.2 inches this week...
for us.. that is 20% of the annual precip. All slow, and gentle. Nice for
the pastures, and gardens... great for wheat planting, not so nice for
camping. Good for setting up for hunting.

Have a blast, looking forward to the reports too,
