Tim: however....that discontinued model, albeit a fine little tuner, doesn't have an auto-tune function so it can't be located at a remote site (like at the base of a vertical antenna), correct????

These are great little tuners. I have one as well but mine is not for
sale. I believe they are rated for 75W so if you occasionally use a
small external amplifier like the Hardrock or HFPacker you've still got
a comfortable margin.

Me (AA0VE) Now THAT sounds like a good explanation!

(Chuck)  But there is yet another.  But, if no other individual has the same
problem, this may not be the case.  How about a software issue
with the keying chip?

Any one got an unbuilt Piggie.  I'll volunteer to build it for you
and ship it back in one week.  I'll pay the shipping both ways.

dit dit

chuck, k7qo

P.S.  I plan on getting an order in on the next batch.  Can't have
too many rigs in the pen.

ME (AA0VE):
I suggest this:  Anyone who experiences the 'dit dit dit' problem when he applies power without paddles plugged into the jack should measure the resistance between the dit pin and ground with no paddles (or power) connected.  Then measure it again with the paddles connected, to see if there's a difference.  If Chuck's original suggestion is correct, you should measure 0 ohms with the paddles disconnected and infinite with them plugged in.

It seems to me that if there is a software issue, EVERYONE should have the same phenomenon, unless the software was updated at some point.

FS: Icom IC-745 Transceiver

Dan Reynolds

I have for sale an Icom IC-745 HF Transceiver. 160-10M plus WARC bands. 500 Hz XTAL Filters (both IFs), SSB XTAL filter. Piexx memory card (so it won't lose it's mind when the battery goes out), FM board, keyer.
Original hand MIC included. Power cord, original owners manual and a copied shop manual.

95 watts on 3.050 MHz, 90 watts on 7.050 MHz, 70 watts or so on the upper bands -- this was on a 12.5 V power supply.
Everything works.
Great shape, near mint condition.
Very good transceiver.
I flipped the internal switch for 50 watt output and set the max power to 25 watts when I used it. That way you could dial it down to 5 watts or less. I have adjusted it back up to the 100 watt switch setting to sell it though.

Really has "knob" appeal!
Heavyweight - weighs 18#'s! No /p in a back pack!
I replaced all the case screws with black oxide torx screws. Original screws looked bad.
I have pictures if you're interested.
I will be taking it to the Arthur, IL hamfest, Sunday, April 21st.
I'm selling it because I bought a G59 transceiver kit last at Ozarkcon and need to replenish the slush fund.
My main rig is my Yaesu FT-817.

I'm thinking $350 or best offer - we split shipping (my zip 62521).
Email me for pics.

I picked up a beautiful condition navy Flameproof key at a local hamfest. In use it's a bit scratchy at times. Simple fix - clean the contacts... But I can't find the contacts. Does it need to be completely disassembled? Hope not!

Any guidance gratefully accepted.

Re: PigRig Can't Stop Talking

I guess if you plug in the key, apply power, and all works FB, then you might be right. If it only works when you apply power and THEN plug in the key, maybe the momentary contact while you are plugging it in will cause the IC to stabilize. I don't have a pigrig, so this is all speculation on my part and I can't do any tests. It would be interesting to get to the bottom of it, though.

Re: Banner

Jim Sheldon

Guys,
I just finished building KD0ZZ's coax amplifier antenna as described in this issue of the Banner.  Took a little deep thought, but I solved the major problem of finding the Tungsten wire by recycling a bunch of those old, now semi-illegal 100 watt light bulbs and salvaging the Thoriated Tungsten filaments.  It took several thousand bulbs to get enough wire and splicing the ends together took some doing.  I had to buy one of those huge spot welders from Harbor Freight to achieve this, but since the filaments are actually spiral wound, the final result was physically shorter than if you laid out the quarter wave of wire in a straight line.  This is not a problem due to the absence of velocity factor in the Tungsten filament wire.  Also, Thoriated Tungsten is slightly "Radio Active" so it improves the amplification by a small amount, about .75 dB.  Good use for those old 100 watt lightbulbs that have been replaced by Chinese CFL bulbs which fail much sooner than the called for 5000 hours!

I enjoyed Tommy Henderson – WD5AGO’s contribution.

Homebrewing at UHF is a different world. I can almost relate (but not really) from my experience recently making a clean, stable heterodyne oscillator for 30MHz.

Imagine…

Stability at 2,160,000,000 cycles per second.

I have the week off. First time of since November. I am going to work on the LO of my HB tube receiver at a whopping 3,000,000 cycle per second.

Radio is really amazing!
