FLDIGI and Jim's Banner Article
Phil Anderson
Hi Jim and all.
Jim, way to go, I really enjoyed your tutorial and very nice time line article on the Ras-PI and FLDIGI. Particularly liked your "stick with it" attitude and getting it up. Super! I had wondered what Ras-PI was; now I know. Very nice intuitive/informative article. Uncle Phil, W0XI

4SLink connections
Just discovered why I couldn't get the 4SLink to work with the KX3. Â The Mic/PTT jack on the 4SLink is backwards from the way the KX3 works. Â On the 4SLink, the microphone audio is on the "ring" and it needs to be on the "tip" of the connector going to the KX3.
Â
I was trying to use a standard audio extension cable between the 4SLink and the KX3 which put PTT on the Microphone Audio in and the audio on the PTT (ring) of the KX3. Â
Â
Note to NM0S, I would have thought the normal convention would put Audio on the TIP and PTT on the Ring for most rigs. Â I realize you state on the connections page that one needs to make up a jumper to match the rig, but without someone reading the schematic to find this out, you might notate the schematic and devote a short paragraph in the manual to this.

USB-Serial Adapters
Another great one if you can find the older Inside Out Networks "Edgeport" 2, 4 or 8 port USB to DB9 adapter on eBay for a decent price (they run the gamut from $30 up to over $300 for the newly manufactured ones). Â I found a 4 port one a few months ago for $39.95 and that thing has been totally trouble free on any computer I've plugged it into. Â Windows 7, both 32 and 64 bit understands the box and knows where to find the latest drivers for it automatically. Â Not the cheapest way out, but the most trouble free one I've found. Â Keep checking eBay you might just find one on a "buy it now" with free shipping for a decent price. Â By decent, for that box just about anything under $60 for a 4 port and $40 for a 2 port is probably the best you're going to find.

Re: USB to Serial Adapter
Just about anything with an FTDI chipset is MUCH better than the Prolific stuff. Â Elecraft actually discontinued use of the Prolific ones over a year ago and went to the FTDI chipset. Â Much more reliable and just about every modern OS has the drivers built in.

Thanks Dave. I saw the
summary last night on TV general news. Quite a neat thing. The
newscaster postulated about future solar power travel for the
public....that could - if ever - take awhile.

NAQCC Sprint Wednesday night!
Wayne Dillon
Just passing this along, Hope you can support this fun sprint, no I wont be in it as it co-insides with net nite but I hope some of y'all can get on and have some fun...
NAQCC Sprint Wednesday night! Last May we had one of only two sprints with under 100 logs submitted in the past three years. That was due to many members heading off to the Dayton Hamfest. So this year to avoid that, we are having our May sprint the week before Dayton as we hope to continue our long run of 100+ logs sprints to show the ham radio world CW is alive and well - and actually growing. That means our May sprint will be on a second Wednesday instead of a third Wednesday. Our May sprint is this coming Wednesday evening local time (May 8, EDT - 8:30-10:30PM, CDT - 7:30-9:30PM, MDT - 6:30-8:30PM, PDT - 5:30-7:30PM), which translates as Thursday May 9, 0030Z to 0230Z in all cases. I will refer you to the proper URL: http://naqcc.info/sprint201305.html There you will find all the details as to time, frequencies and other important information. Certificates: SWA (simple wire antennas) certificates by call area, VE and DX for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers (New!). A Certificate for top score in the GAIN antenna category. Prizes: Too many to list!! - check out the prize page on our website. This is a monthly event that caters to the CW veteran, the CW newcomer, straight key and bug fans. All are welcome to participate (this includes QRO); but you must use QRP power levels to compete for awards. If you've been hesitant to join in our sprints because you hear other sprints running at breakneck speeds, have no fear. Our sprints are geared to the newcomer to CW and/or contesting. Virtually everyone including the many veteran contesters who regularly enter our sprints will slow down to YOUR speed to help you make your contacts. If you are not already a member of NAQCC... membership is FREE! Now is your chance to join the largest QRP CW Club in the world!! We currently have 6680+ members in: All 50 States - 9 VE Provinces - 93 Countries. Sign up on the NAQCC website today (http://naqcc.info/) and receive a handsome certificate, with your membership number on it, which is good for life. Come join us and have a real good time! 72/73 de Dave VA3RJ NAQCC #0004 for NAQCC http://naqcc.info/ http://www.qsl.net/kc0pmh/Â Â Under construction but please visit anyway.
