Yes, Fernan, that is exactly what it means. Depending on the time of day and the ionospheric conditions, 40 meters can be short - conducive to hops ranging from a few miles to a few hundred miles, or thousands of miles. So when 40 meters is “long” you are more likely to have contacts of 1000 miles (1600 km) or more and less likely to be able to work a station 100-200 miles (160 to 320 km) away. 80 meters can behave exactly the same way. One night I was hearing absolutely nothing on 80 meters, except one station mid-band. It was Western Sahara, and I worked him with 5 watts on 80m. That is unusual, but it certainly happens.

It's possible.  Ask us again when the new kits are available, hopefully around the end of the year.

I have a Nouveau-75 that is yet unbuilt.  I purchased it a couple weeks ago.  I haven't even unsealed the box yet.

Would it be possible for me to purchase the newly designed board and utilize the parts from my existing kit so I can avoid the whole daughterboard thing?

Thanks in advance!

QRP Magazines and CDs for sale

David Wilcox

I am cleaning the shack and have some QRP magazines and CDs that must go...…..

I have:

1) Low Power Communications, Volume One QRP Basics by Rich Arland,  K7HYA.  This is his first edition published by Tiare Publications

2) Atlanticon 2000 Prodeedings March 24-25, 2000  (this is like the FDIM Proceedings, spiral bound)

3) Three  Cds of the American QRP Homebrewer Journal, Volumes 5, 6 and 7 from 2005 and 2006 (see photos) filled with articles, utilities, videos and projects.

4) Six volumes of QRP Homebrewer by the NJ QRP Club (see photos for issues and years).

I would like $25.00 to cover mailing and handling costs.  I think that is fair but if you want to dicker with me that 's OK.  I just don't want to trash this treasure trove of QRP information from the first half of the 2000's.  The cost of the mid size USPS Priority Mail box is $14.00 and change now.  Please contact me with any questions. I prefer PayPal but am flexible.

Please contact me at Djwilcox01 @ gmail dot com if interested.

Thank you.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on them being back in stock by then.

It takes a couple of weeks to get the boards after Dave makes the changes?

Sorry about the delay.

Hi Jerry,

That's not something I worry much about ;-)?? Whenever I check in with a 5 or 10 watt AM rig they are usually so surprised they don't make any remarks about audio quality.???? The electret mic has a wide response and there's some filtering in the audio preamp, so to get a sense of what it looks like I played some 8 kHz white noise into the mic while looking at the output spectrum:

With 20 kHz span each horizontal division represents 2 kHz so you can see the Nouveau 75 passband is filled to 4 kHz - I suspect the roll-off on the low end is due to limitations in my test method.?? But this shows good audio response in the 2 kHz range that Bob Heil emphasizes is most important for intelligibility.
