Last weekend it was $2.99 and if you can find an ad for it at that price without an
expiration date on the ad the stores will honor it!
Look around for a flyer as they are often in it at that price.

I try to pick one up 2 or 3 times a year, carry in car or toss in a general tool box.

Okay, I've recovered. Now I really and truly think you ought to consider buying a multimeter for these kinds testing needs. For the current purpose, pretty much any one will do. Here's one from Harbor Freight for a mere $5.29:

I've got one of these I keep in the car and another for my "go-bag" for use in the field. These work just fine for ordinary purposes around the house or shack. I have much, much better bench instruments for high-tech electronics, so I don't care if the calibration on a cheapie meter is not accurate to within 0.1 Volt or Ohm.

If you can afford a better multimeter, buy one, but personally I'd sooner go without an car than without a meter.

There! That was a nice enough reply, don't you think?

Now wait a minute Terry.   I notice every city/town was capitalized except Lombard, IL.  Do you have anything against Lombard?  Did you get a ticket there one time or another?  And, I also noticed you like Larry, Ken, Wendell, and Ron better since you capitalized their names. ;-)

Well I "think" I made it. LOL I've obviously got some more to learn about PSK31. I have 3 separate conversations "besides" the net going on at 35.805. And then there is the W1AW cw just above.
I did see dick had me checked in through all the conversations. On the PSK net WQ5RP was the strongest.  Thanks to all for the fun.

Re: Building

Jerry

I use an Island Keyer II and can't say enough good things about it.

Mine uses only the speed pot and I power it with 2 penlight batteries which last over a year even tho I never turn it off.

I do no extra RF filtering or suppression as and I operate running 800 watts sometimes.

Great project - works great.

Good luck - 73

I'm building a keyer to go with one of my tube rigs.

It's grid block keying and I'm using a keyer adaptor
form HamGadgits.

I decided to use the Island Keyer II because it's
board allows me to use Pots for speed, tone etc
as well as momentary switches for jumping around
in the menu's.

I'm also using a small audio amp and speaker for
sidetone.

All this will go in a nice metal enclosure.

I was wondering if I need to rig up some kind of
a choke on the keying line to keep RF out of the
keyer.

Not sure it it's needed or what I would use so thought
I would ask ya'll.

Anyone have a favorite method of accomplishing this?

Just curious !
