Broken part for HF Test Set

Gary <wf0gmn@...>

While finishing up a build of the HF Test Set, I accidentally broke a lead on C9 (12-60 pf variable trim cap.).

Before I order one from Mouser and pay 10x the part cost in shipping, I thought I'd ask and see if anyone has one lying around.

Thanks,
Gary, WF0GMN

OK, the HT is QRP and I'm from Kansas, so maybe it isn't Off Topic:

Q1: What sort of SWR do you see with the 15M stick on 15M?

Q2: What does "no luck" mean? Does the 259B tell you that it's resonate above or below what you want?

On some hamstick type whips if the whip section is too long and a lot of it is shoved down inside the coil it acts like a tuning slug in the coil and it can do all sorts of things you don't want. You might also try putting the whip out at its longest length and see where the antenna is resonant. Could be it's just w-a-y too long.

Try using the original stinger (15m) and tune it with an ASTU?

Not only will it work, but as Tim said, it will actually work better on 17 with the long whip than it works on 15 with the standard whip.  You can do the same thing with a 10 meter hamstick using the longer whip on 12 meters.  I've also done this with the Hustler mobile coils on a 4 foot mast with outstanding results.  Never did figure out why Newtronics didn't do it that way in the first place.  The "less coil, more whip" approach seems to be quieter noise wise than the standard setup.

It should work fine, maybe even better than a 17 Meter Hamstick since you may end up with less coil and more straight radiator.

For some reason, I've been getting duplicates of your emails through the 4 states group.  I got this last one 4 times!  Yesterday's net announcement came twice.  Is there something going on with your email server?

Hope to eventually check-in to your Tuesday or Thursday net.
