I ran into the same question. Seems like something to verify before turning on the power for the first time.

I heard Chas W2SH as well from KS, but nothing from Terry.  80m was much better, despite the noise.

As suspected the band was pretty dead tonight, only Charles, W2SH, made it in.  He had a good signal and our TT Argo 6's chatted back and forth easily.  He was a solid 559 but there was some QSB.  Thank you Charles.

Rig was a KX3 @ 5watts to a rotatable dipole on 40M and an inverted vee on 80M.

Signals for the 40M net were very weak in Louisiana.
At some point, I heard "PWP" just above the noise, so I guess that was Paul.

On 80M signals were much better.
I was able to copy most of the stations and check into the net.

Since we are talking about Hilltoppers, how come the mods suggested by Dave are not listed in errata on 4SQRP?

I just was aware of these mods. It may be a good idea to post them there.

I did pick up the components from mouser. Hoping I got the correct ones.

Just think, if you keep the Hilltopper going for 10 years you will be
able to come out with the Golden Jubilee Collectors Version with Gold
Cabinet and your engraved call letters for a mere $400.00 !  These will
be highly sought after such as Collins KW-1 transmitters and
Hallicrafters SX-88 receivers are today.

Truth to tell, WA9PWP and I had easy QSOs on both 40m and 80m.  On the former I gave Paul a 579, but there was a lot of man-made electrical noise.  A half hour later that noise had abated and even though  Paul was just 559, our short 80m QSO was more pleasant on my ears than the 40m QSO.
