Thanks, John. Very cool. I'll bet something similar could be done with a rotary switch and several xtals (within the same portion of a band, at least).

Great! My #147 board is all done except for needing a replacement L3 toroid, which is in the mail. His pigpen from ten-tec is flying this way too. I should have it up sometime this week.

I'm reposting this from the EMRFD group:
(I'm sure all of you know of Bill & KangaUS)

Bill Kelsey - Kanga US
Sat Mar 9, 2013 10:07 am (PST) . Posted by: "ken evans" w4du@bellsouth.net
I just spoke with Tina Kelsey (Bill's wife) and she informed me that Bill had a stroke yesterday (March 8). Right now the impact has been weakness in his right arm and leg and difficulty with speech and swallowing. His memory has not been impacted.

His was air lifted from Finely to Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus yesterday and is being treated there. Currently they are expecting time and treatment will yield a full recovery.

Tina has asked that people not email or telephone them until further notice. Kanga US will obviously be down for an undetermined amount off time. I will post any updates received.

Brian,

Your assumption is correct! I noticed that you posted this to the 4sqrp reflector which is fine. However, there is a Yahoo group dedicated to the NS-40 and everything that pertains to this neat little transmitter. If you have not joined the group I invite you to do so. You can google it or there is a button to click on, on the page where you ordered the NS-40 kit.

Of course, most of the members of that group are also 4sqrp guys so you will do pretty well here also!! There are quite of few files and photos on the yahoo site not to mention the archive of all the postings and discussions!

Enjoy that NS-40!!

Terry,

This little pig went to Ozarcon,
This little pig stayed home;
This little pig ate roast beef,
This little pig had none.
And THIS little pig went whee, whee, all the way home, was fed a proper diet of juice (the 12VDC kind), and her voice was heard throughout the land ...

Suckling pig #178 exited the mailbox in Gnadenhutten OH on Friday March 08 2013 and the apapropriate slap on the backside (with a soldering pencil, of course!) will commence in the very near future.

I would appreciate a label if possible; March 2013 would be fine.

Thanks also for all the crystal socket ideas. A 14-pin machined pin IC socket could be cut in half at the center pins, yielding four 3-pin sockets ... just right for one rig if the center pin of the 3-pin socket is used for ground as per some of the ideas and pics at http://www.w5usj.com/images/bandchangemods.pdf and http://www.w5usj.com/images/crystalgrounding.pdf ...

Now back to tending the suckling pig ...

I do like the charcoal color. The TP-19 dimensions on the Ten Tec web site
differ from the one I purchased. Mine is 2" x 4.75" x 4" and the PigRig fits
perfectly. http://www.wa0itp.com/pigrig3b.jpg

Changing freqs, say to go to 7122 for Wayne's nets, will require 4 xtals. Three
for the rcvr front end filter, and 1 for the local oscillator. Diz has crystals
as well as ESS.

Re: Pig Rig Serial Number Question

Charlie Vest

I believe Barney and I have it worked out now . Two invoices with
SN # 172 were issued , looks like a typo .

Barney's parts bag has SN # 172 on it and mine has SN # 171 on it .

So it looks like :
Charlie : SN # 171
Barney : SN # 172

I'll have to impose on Terry to change my PDF file .

Soldering iron is hot and all of the resistors are installed . Time for a little break :)

Charlie , W5COV

Well, before you bug Diz, I have an invoice with #172 on it.  But I do not have the kit yet.  It was probably a typo of some sort.

Picked up what I was looking for at the Claremore Hamfest last night so I took today off from it for a little bench time :)

Re: SIP Crystal Sockets

Rick Bennett

Just for fun I took a crystal from the junk box to see if I could make a crystal socket with ground.  It looks like it works pretty good with a 4 pin sip socket.  I had to grid a little of the lip on the bottom of the crystal to make the lead line up.  The results are in the Yahoo group photos:
