Re: 40 and 80 meter net report
Well Johnny, it wasn’t because we didn’t try ! Hate to sound like a broken record but I worked the dial s-l-o-w-l-y around 7.122 and occasionally some part of a letter would pop up at then at 2:18 into the Net there was a very short burst of super loud CW and before I could zero in it was gone.

While 80m was better all but short bursts were under my noise, which was not terrible tonight. If I had never worked Washington State and Northern Maine with 5w I would question if this was even possible ? For me, I can only say thanks for being there and giving me real practice. 73, John

Mike, I built and installed one of those for another ham and could do it for you. No cost except for postage each way. And a bit of patience as it might take a couple of weeks. If interested, drop me me a line directly. 73 Bob Groh, WA2CKY Blue Springs, MO. 64014

Hi, Mike,

Thanks for your email. I’m afraid though that I’m not the one to ask—I have not added the “Souper Upper” kit to my own Bayou Jumper. The only Soupping Up” I’ve done is to add the Nextion Color Display to my uBITX. You might be able to find someone who has already done this by checking on the EHAM review page. It would be much easier to find someone who has already performed this procedure to do it a second time. BTW, drilling through the faceplate with an electric drill...starting with a smaller bit and holding the drill still... should be no problem. I have done that myself to add a second keying lamp to the faceplate. Good luck! 73’s, Rick

I would like to hire someone (ideally someone who has installed this kit into a Bayou Jumper already) to complete the final steps in me adding the "Souper Upper" kit to my Bayou Jumper. I've completed the board for the kit, but I don't feel confident enough to complete the internal mounting of the board, wiring the same, and most importantly, accurately drilling through the face of the Bayou Jumper. I have only one non-standard item on my Bayou Jumper, in that, please note it has a Vernier tuning dial, which has helped me a great deal in selecting the received frequency. I don't believe it will preclude the Souper Upper kit items to be installed as intended. I'll obviously pay shipping both ways, and I'd appreciate an approximate dollar estimate to install the Souper Upper kit. Lastly, I'm not in a particular rush. Thanks in advance for considering my request for assistance. N0XM Mike

Well, 2020 started off with a whimper, for sure. We had 9 people bother to tabulate their scores, even though four of them had a score of zero. The highest score for January was Carl, WB0CFF, with a whopping 6 points. When Carl only manages 3 QSOs, you know the bands must be in bad shape. There were four entries with 2 points, so we have a four way tie for 2nd place.
Let's hope things are looking better in February. Congratulations Carl. You will receive your January certificate shortly, after I walk the dog... 72, John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator

That's sage advice. In the future I'll move away from 7.122. Sorry if i was one of the offenders.

Subject: [4SQRP] OT: FS: Used Older iPAD I have an older (I believe 4th generation - first one with the "Retina" display) iPAD available if anyone is interested. (My wife bought me a new Gen 7 version.) It has 16 gigs of memory which is a little small by today's standards but it you don't put too many apps on it, it will work just fine. It still holds a charge and will come with the charger and a new, much longer, "Lightning" cord. The only problem with it is the iPAD's "Lightning" cord input jack is a little worn and you sometimes have to make sure that good contact is made when plugging it in to recharge.

There are no cracks in the screen or case and it comes with a leather protective cover that's still serviceable though it has seen better days. I've wiped all personal and app data from it and it comes up wanting a new owner to take it over. Original cost, some 7 or 8 years ago was just over $500. I'd like to get $90 out of it (via PayPal only, no checks or money orders) and that will include shipping to anywhere in the US. Please contact me off list if interested (w0eb at cox.net) to keep the clutter down on the reflector. Jim Sheldon, W0EB
