I had a versa tuner back in the day  but  have lost it over my years of non activity in the hobby .. have to order something.. need to pick one up ... my original rig was 830s .. I’m rekindled in the hobby with qrp CW ..

Actually using about 53ft with a 9:1 is just about right .  I do this all the time however you should check the SWR and adjust the wire for a happy point, not necessarily resonant.  Generally speaking, the 9:1 will cover 80-10 using a minimal tuner but without a tuner you really need a meter handy.

Remember, you need to get as much power as possible out the antenna because you don’t have much to start with !

I would recommend you do what you can do to obtain a tuned wire
Tuned for somewhare in the 40 meter CW band !
50 feet of wire means what exactly I don't know !
A good ground might be
A wire run from the coax shield straight to the earth !
I hope this might help
Running abt 650 mW what I get out of mine !
i find it very helpful to run as efficient antenna as I can
50 feet of un tuned wire I would not think would be a very happy
Even though the cricket is a nice little rig and can handly a good bit of abuse
You might ought to try and give it its best chance !
