Re: SSS Results for December
Carl Gansen
Hello to all 4 State QRP members,
I started with the 4 States group a bit over two years ago. I have enjoyed the group. It was fun to meet a dedicated group of QRP enthusiasts. In the process, I added a few new friends and enjoyed the company of a few that I had met elsewhere. It is highly likely that my operating will be curtailed in 2020. I have been fighting stage four kidney cancer for over two years now. My cancer has returned three times, so far. I've had several biopsies, surgeries, and radiation treatment sets. My oncologist and I have been playing high-stakes Whack-A-Mole all this time. During Oct/Nov, I had a series of radiation treatments to deal with several new active sites. Now, I have started a targeted therapy to help suppress further flare-ups. The medication involved has been very rough on me and I start a second targeted therapy in parallel in January. It already took everything that I had to join in on the Nov/Dec sprints. I have already shared this with John, AA0VE, and my friend, Chas, W2SH. I'm sharing this with the group at large for several reasons. If I cannot join you guys on the air, be certain to know that I will miss operating with you. You welcomed me and I have had a lot of fun. I thank you all. So, far, I have beaten the odds and if my oncologist continues to pull rabbits out of her hat, I may be able to still make some noise on the second Sunday of the month 72/73 Carl WB0CFF

SSS Results for December
John Lonigro
Well, I jumped the gun and tabulated the scores for the Second Sunday Sprint this morning. I noticed the front runners had all submitted their scores already, so I was able to fill in my spreadsheet and make up the certificates. If anyone has NOT submitted his score yet, please do so. I will check qrpcontest.com/4sqrp one more time later this afternoon before finalizing the 2019 spreadsheet.
As of 6:00 this morning, the winner for December is Carl, WB0CFF, with 26 QSO points. I will send Carl's December certificate this evening, in the event someone got over 26 points and hasn't posted his score yet. Congratulations Carl! Now it's time to announce the overall winners for 2019. I am highly confident no late entries will be able to affect the final standings, at least the first three places. In first place, with 184 points, is Carl Gansen, WB0CFF. Carl has won this prestigious award two years in a row now. Congratulations to Carl! You will receive your 1st place certificate shortly. In second place, with 165 points, is Charles (aka Chas) Moizeau, W2SH. Chas has been one of the top 3 winners ever since I took on the task of running this contest. Congratulations Chas. You will also receive your 2nd place certificate shortly. In third place, with 123 points, is John Laney, K4BAI. Like the others, John has been hovering near the top the last few years. He's finished 2nd, 4th, and now 3rd. Maybe 2020 will be the year he finishes first. Congratulations John. You will receive your 3rd place certificate shortly. I am putting together an abbreviated final spreadsheet. If the person who is able to post that spreadsheet on the club website contacts me, I will supply it to him so he can post it for all to see. If not, I'll send a copy to Keith, KC0PP, for inclusion in the next newsletter. I may do that anyway. All non-zero scores should be acknowledged (and celebrated). I hope everyone has a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all get recharged during the holidays and are ready for a new contest beginning the 2nd Sunday of January (of course). Here's a suggestion: make participation in the SSS one of your New Years Resolutions! That's what I should do... 72, John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator.

Final SSS of 2019 is tonight!
John Lonigro
Don't forget the final Second Sunday Sprint of 2019 is tonight.
I've got a small favor to ask of all participants. Please get your score in before Monday night. I'm having work done in the basement starting Tuesday and I'm dismantling the computer early that morning. I plan to tabulate the scores and produce the certificates Monday night. Otherwise it might be Friday or later before I get the computer up and running again. Thanks. 72, John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator

K1SWL has done it again, the Phaser!
JT Croteau
Just like the Warbler and PSK series of days long ago, K1SWL has done
it again by teaming up with N2APB to produce a phasing SSB QRP transceiver for FT8 and other digital modes. With two frequencies available and a cost of only $50 per band, we can put our DSB toys out to pasture. Kits start shipping Dec. 16th: https://midnightdesignsolutions.com/phaser/ I've ordered two thus far. N1ESE

Bayou Jumper Paraset needing repair
I am reaching out to anyone in the hope that you may be able to tell me someone that would be qualified to repair my Bayou Jumper Paraset transceiver.
Last week I purchased the radio off of ebay and noted the following: 1) Output was a full 5 wts. 2) Great receiver 3) only problem I noted was upon transmitting, the normal sidetone was heard and when it was not heard the sidetone was replaced by a "hum" when transmitting. As I indicated, a full 5wts were being sent out and was heard by numerous Reverse Beacon Stations. The sidetone was only heard very sporadically. When placed in Receive mode, only the normal sidetone was heard when pressing the key without a "hum". Last night, the transmitter stopped working completely. The sidetone/hum was heard, but no signal was being sent out. Specifics about the radio are as follows: 1)The radio is the Rev 1 containing the green panel. 2)It contains the add-on "Soup'er Up'er kit" This was the PCB version 1.42 which exhibited an issue with the sidetone not working properly when a crystal was installed. It appears no fix was made on my radio per the instructions provided with the Soup'er Up'er manual under errata on page 19 of that manual. 3)The receive audio mute, fine tuning, and filter work fine. If anyone knows of someone qualified to repair the radio, I would greatly appreciate it. Cost is no problem. I simply want to enjoy the radio. Thank you. Jim W3JAP

Larry has been down with Influenza all last week and this week. I
think he is going to try to get back on the bench this weekend. He (
his wife a nurse) has turned off all devices...... ;-)

To those Cricket 30 purchasers awaiting the 10.106 crystals.
I finally received ship confirmation for the crystals. As soon as I receive them, I will package them in envelopes and send them out. Hopefully you will see them within next two weeks depending on crystals’ arrival and Holiday mail volumes.
We want to thank everyone for their patience while we endured this long backorder delay.

Since you don't have your 36 hour day filled yet, why not bring out the 40 meter version as well. Bud Koeppell would be pleased as well.

Status of Nouveau 75
nm0s_qrp <ai9e_qrp@...>
For those patiently waiting for sales of the Nouveau 75 to resume, more patience is needed!
I'm in the process of modifying the PCB layout to add the receiver mods, and should have that done this weekend. A few more weeks will be required to get boards fabbed and shipped, and sales should resume in January. Thanks for bearing with us! 73 Dave NM0S
