Paul Goemans
Well,
No sign of a net on 40 meters. I listened and called CQ on and off
until 0215. Heard a KC4ITX? and heard W7KFS call CQ, no contact. I only got 2
very weak reverse beacon network hits, in CA and FL!
I knew Johnny was not going to call the 80 meter net, but I called
CQ for awhile anyway. Got numerous reverse beacon network hits, from CO to the
east coast. Had a QSO with W0PWE. Heard a weak 4s? around 0239Z. Listened a bit
more, nothing so called it quits.

Re: cricket 30 C15, C16, R8
WA0ITP
Since the sidetone is a relaxation oscillator,
change C16 or R8 to change the sidetone. Note that it has nothing
to do with the frequency offset, and it won't change when changing
the frequency to which the rig is tuned. Change xtals to prove
that.

C15 controls the T/R offset and determines the tone at which you'll be able to work a station at a tone you like. Try for 500-800 HZ, I changed C15 on my first 80A and achieved ~600 hz offset which it played vy well GL and enjoy your Cricket. Re: cricket 30
Yes I thought the cricket did not have an audible pitch with some stations. I modified the C 13 capacitor with a little Variable that helped.

Dog whistle Cricket. I found the sidetones mod info. There first changed C-15 to a 30pf which did well, but later changed it to a variable (anything that tunes 15 to 60 will do). They tore one out of a cheap transistor radio, and mounted it in the battery location. They then soldered two 9v battery clips together, snapped one on the Cricket board clop and the other one onto a battery laying off the board (observe polarity when soldering wires). Frank

Re: cricket 30
Frank Perkins <N6CES.r@...>
Dog whistle sidetones? Well, outside of eating Kibbles and dog biscuits, it seems like I remember a modification published on the Cricket 80 that changed the value of a cap (C-7?). Another ham installed a variable cap over by the key and ran wires to the cap's previous location pads. You might look for arrivals on it and compare circuitry to your Cricket 30. Frank N6CES

Re: cricket 30
My experience is that the antenna tuning can affect the sidetone for some reason. Gwen, NG3P
