Terry (WA0ITP) he had sent me a message a little earlier saying it is in/from the Hilltopper20.  I ran out of the 3.3uh chokes but just this week had Joy order a few more.  Dave B has those right now so I will pull one out of a kit and send it to him and then replace that when I get them from Dave.

Thank you.

The kitter, AC0BQ, may have an extra in the overflow parts stock and can send a replacement .  I'll copy him on this note

If he doesn't, here is the Digikey part number as noted in the parts list.  78F3R3J-RC-ND  They have a boatload in stock.

Good luck and have fun.

There are many gray line map programs and aps that are great to help you decide when to get on the bands.  Just look around to find the one you like.

Your best time to convene both regionally and cross country on 40m will depend on local sunset. In the winter months, that's going to be closer to 5-6pm. Much later in the summer (8-9pm). 80m will be the next best option about an hour after local sunset. The grey line is your friend as a QRP op.

Hello all,

I'm writing to let you know that Greg passed away last week of colon cancer, so I'll remove him from this list soon. If any of you know where I can sell some of his radios please let me know.
On another uncomfortable note, just get your colonoscopies. You do not want what he had. He was only 55.

Blessings,
Lauri

I got on at around 7:40 and called cq just to test the waters.
I got a quick reply from a station in TN.
The main difference i noticed was lower a lower qrn level at this time?

My results at 8:30 was Chas W2SH and he was very weak.
I'm off duty next week as NCS due to my other monthly commitment, but
I am thinking if trying the next at 7:30 local or 1:30 z in two weeks.

Thanks

So,
  Nothing heard on 40 meters.
Started 15 minutes early calling CQ on 80 meters, but got no response. The Reverse Beacon Network spotted me a bunch of times, mostly East and West coasts. At net time no net heard on 80 meters.

Was a couple of minutes late getting tuned up on 40m, but nothing was heard.

80m was a different story.  ACØBQ had the best signal I've heard from him this season, RST 579 most of the time with QSB down to 549.  I only got a 339 so condx not so great there.

Temp now plus 6 in NJ, but that's probably roasty toasty compared to you guys.

Bill,

Got in around 9:10 EST........ no detectable action.  80 was not any better, must be all the RF is getting frozen and it will thaw out and become QRN in March ?

Worth a try, thanks for your effort.

Re: RF Gain control

Carl Gansen

I agree on using the RF gain also.  There is little to gain by pumping extra noise into your ears.
In fact, on some of the newer QRP rigs with SDR or  SDR-IFs reducing the noise into the ADC
seems to make an improvement in the effectiveness of the digital algorithms.

I do quite a bit of QRP on 160M and in contests like the recent Stew Perry distance challenge
you need to ride the RF gain with all of those huge signals flying about.  I had a lot of fun
as a QRP entry in that one again this year with my Argonaut 6.
