ANNOUNCEMENT - THE GREAT 4SQRP LOGO CONTEST

AG1P Ron

GE Everyone,

Four State QRP Group has launched a new educational initiative - 4SQRP 4 Kids.  We would like to have a custom logo to use with the program, one that will signify that an education program is a legitimate 4SQRP sanctioned event.  In order to maximize the funding for OzarkCon and this kids program, we thought we would have a contest among our members to come up with an awesome design rather than engaging commercial artists.

Here are the rules.  A member or someone in his/her immediate family may submit one or multiple logos. By looking at the logo, it should be evident that it represents a children’s program sanctioned by 4SQRP.  Deadline for submitting entries is 2359 hrs on May 15th.  Submissions can be made by email  to me at  ag1p@... or mailed to:

Four State QRP Group

Logo Contest

PO Box 478

Waldport, OR 97394

Winner must be willing to transfer ownership to us so the logo can be trademarked to protect our kids program.  The winning entry will receive their choice of a 4SQRP Hilltopper 20 or Hilltopper 40 transceiver, plus a matching 4S-Tuner (Pun intended).  The decision of the panel of judges is final and the winning entry will be announced by June 1st.

Any questions should be directed to me at my email address above.

In years past when SWL was still alive, I built several of Dave's transceivers. In my opinion, anything designed by Dave Benson is going to be great. I especially like the DSW transceivers and kick myself all the time for selling them a couple of years ago. I'd love to build the Hilltopper 20 but am having a tough time justifying the purchase with a KX2 due to arrive any day now and several other QRP rigs in the shack. This QRP stuff is down-right fun!

Paul. Congratulations!

FYI in event you want to run the QRP 5W "legal limit" the following courtesy Dave Benson to an earlier query re. reducing Hilltopper output ...

"The most straightforward mod would be to squeeze the turns on L6 more tightly together. It would have the effect of decreasing the power getting through the low pass filter. Without a way of measuring power out, though, you'd be running blind.

I adhere strictly to the 5 watt limit for the various QRP contests.  For my portable operations, though, there's no such power limit. I'm perfectly content to call 6 watts 'QRP'.

Gang,
Just completed the Hilltopper 40 kit. Works like a champ! Already “broke it in” with a QSO. For other HT40 owners; how much power output are you getting? I am measuring 7 watts (into a dummy load) at 12.5 V DC power supply! Wow!
I don’t own a spectrum analyzer but the harmonics are minimal so all seems well in the LPF.

Ed,

Determine exactly what frequency your Cricket is on and let us know. I suspect it is lower than the marked crystal. I'll make a call on your frequency next week. If everyone listens for you, someone should be able to QSP. Also, an antenna tuner like the ZM-2 can knock down a lot of the QRM.

Maybe next week.

Here in NJ Johnny you would peak at 559 but then have unreadable moments.  KV6Z was 449, WAØITP 229, WA5BDU 559.

After WAØITP, N4DR tried unsuccessfully to QNI. He was 589 here but there was no point my offering to QSP if I hadn't yet learned if you were hearing me.

I tried to QNI near the end, but no luck.

Thanks for picking me up, Bill. I heard everyone except Paul who lives too close to me. It was nice to have the band noise way down on 40 for a change.

Dear All,

Was reading last week (while on vacation in China) the 4SQRP email on your successful OZARCON19 meet. Congratulations!

Question: Is there an web accessible SDR rx  in your area capable of monitoring the regular 80 m and 40m nets? Something similar to our SF Bay Area

?

(In China - Hainan Island - we found the ancestral home of my wife's father's family. Untouched but maintained by villagers since 40 years ago when he last visited and that after 50 years absence after fleeing to Thailand in 1930. His picture still hangs in a place of honor in the house.
