Re: Any QRP Voice Nets?
4SQRP has a SSB Group that around 60 have signed up for messages so I believe that there’s interest, someone needs to pick a day, time, frequency and so on. I would be willing to be an alternate NC.

I live in NJ. I would be interested in beginning a 2, 6 or 10 meter QRP SSB net. Need to pick a day and time that works for many and we could give it a try. Then have a net test to see how copyable participants are.

Dear Dan, Thanks for the reply. I got a couple of stations last year
from 13 Colonies. This year I am busy getting my house ready to
sell. But I will be caught up by the end of July and will more
time to get on the air. I have only been a Ham about 2 years and
really on air a little over a year. For my 100 watt base station I have a Kenwood TS-520S station (first HF rig) and ICOM 706 MKIIG (will go in my truck once I work out antenna issues) and an ICOM 718 (which will become my field day rig). All of these use a 37 foot End Fed Antenna at 30 feet to the East in a tree and 15 foot to the West on a pole hooked up to a little MFJ tuner. I was at the 4 State QRP Conference this year and came away with a better appreciation for QRP work. Really wish CW would stick in my brain. I picked up a nice FT-817ND for a very good price to play with, so I am building a backpack QRP rig to work with. Going to try some Parks On The Air and Peaks On The Air things later in the year. I have also signed up for the NJQRP Skeeter Hunt in August. Thank you, Jeffrey R. Collins - W7GRV FCC(SW) USN, Ret. BS, EMT-P, FF I/II On 7/3/2019 9:31 AM, Dan Reynolds

This week is one of my favorite events - 13 Colonies. You should give it a try. They often will ask for QRP stations. http://www.13colonies.net/ Hang in there. You can still QRP & SSB and have fun. I've actually gotten (3) 1000 miles per watt QRP-ARCI awards (the ones I turned in). And that was with my old radio a FT-817 and wire antennas. One more thing, and I will state up front that this is me, I don't advertise that I'm QRP unless someone specifically asks or like in the 13 colonies event they want QRP stations to answer. At least for US amateurs-- they get awfully deaf once you tell them you're QRP. Some are even insulting. Personally I view it as fishing with light tackle. I like the challenge and I like to think I'm accomplishing something. Have fun. -- Dan Reynolds -- KB9JLO

Any QRP Voice Nets?
Jeff Collins
Dear All,
Other than the DMR Net are there any QRP Voice Nets for us that has some kind of brain blockage that is not allowing us to learn CW (have attempted to learn in more than one way)? In CW I am up to 3 letters and hour...but it is the same 3 letters over and over. :) On the flip side I am going to try and listen on on the CW nets...just because. Thank you, Jeffrey R. Re: Electronic visual aids for working with SMD (i.e. microscopes)
John Clements
Most of the time I use my magnifier lamp (with an eye loupe sitting on top) and use a cheap set of head mounted magnifiers. But when it gets real tough or I want to take a picture/video I use a USB microscope with my 32" TV. My first one was a $15 kids microscope, worked OK but took poor video. I upgraded to a $50 one which for static images is about the same but video's are much cleaner. I gave the $15 one away to a fellow ham. The hardest part is adjusting focus (depth of field as mentioned in this thread) and my TV is at an angle to the bench so hand/eye coordination between TV and work can be a little challenging at times. A few pictures can be seen in this link: https://kc9on.com/ham-radio/smd/

Don't forget the 20m Foxhunt this week is on Tuesday night due to the July 4th holiday. I will be one of the foxii along with Dan N7CQR. I am located in Central Florida between Tampa and Orlando. I will be running my KX3 at 5 watts. My antenna plan
can be either A or B. Plan A is using the Tennadyne T10.10-30HD log periodic at 50' I have at our Emergency Operations Center. Plan B will using my trusty Hustler 6BTV at home. We are in our summer thunderstorm season here. If no storms are in the area
I will be at the EOC.
I will listen up 1-2khz until the pack thins out. Spread out because I will likely NOT be listening on the same frequency as the previous QSO.
Hope to see you in the log!

Re: Electronic visual aids for working with SMD (i.e. microscopes)
My sight has now deteriorated where even the headband lighted magnifier doesn't help with SMD and I can't read regular transistor numbers or clearly see my through hole soldering . Luckily I have a grandson living with me and a great nephew that is going to be a senior in high school this year that loves electronics and they teach it at the high school he goes to. It is rare for me not to have a part on hand when they want to do a build and they love to use all of the fancy test equipment on my bench . They have become my eyes for reading part numbers and I am still not ready to give up building after only 57 years of doing it !! Since I can't see my solder joints when I solder them now I have found that the USB Camera / Microscope does a really good job of looking at the finished joint as well as looking for bridges when I look at it on a big monitor . I like it because I can get a really close look at a small area . Charlie , W5COV

Re: Cryptographic signatures

The problem with mailing lists is the contents gets mangled while being sent out by the mailing list software. If the list has different max widths than you when signing you can get bad results. Signing really only works when the thing you sign is an attachment. It's been the biggest complaint about PGP style email signatures next to how to build your web of trust.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
When I use PGP for sending emails I only get consistent results by sending a message saying "Please see attachment for contents of message" and never using PGP for mailing lists. Jeff PS I'm sure the signature on this response will come up bad too.
