August Banner
Keith Arns
I will be putting together the August issue of the Banner in just a couple of weeks. If you have something to contribute please pass it along. Especially looking for reports on Field Day. If you operated whether alone or with a group let us know how it went. A paragraph or two and maybe a photo would be nice.
Any other news, project you have been working on or antennas are welcome also. Please send to editorqrpbanner@... 73, Keith Arns KC0PP Editor - The Banner 4States QRP

Heard Terry at 569 just as he was announcing the net's closure. Dropped my call sign but guess he either didn't hear me or or had already pulled the big switch.
Will try next week.

We kick off the 20m summer season tomorrow (!!), Thursday, June 27. I will be one of your QRP Foxes, lurking somewhere between 14.050 and 14.070, sending out “CQ Fox de AJ1DM” at 5 watts with my trusty Elecraft K3 (just back from Field Day) to a fan dipole up 30 feet here in the Rhode Island section of the 20 acre woods.
In case you are a bit rusty, the exchange is: RST – QTH – Name – Pwr. So I’ll be: 5?9 RI John 5W
I will start out split – spread yourselves out as I’ll be mostly working the edges of the pileup. Once the pack thins out I will probably migrate to simplex.
My fellow Fox will be John AC4CA in TX. Look for his announcement shortly.
Happy hunting es 73 de John AJ1DM

Re: Field Day
I could care less about “contesting” such as in Field Day, but I and a couple of others in our club go as “GoFers”. We just hang around, do whatever chores need to be done, enjoy the fellowship, enjoy watching others communication styles, and enjoy the excellent food our club always provides. We just GoFer as requested and keep everything running. We also learn a lot and make new friends.

John,
It is believed that cw is 11-17 db more effective as a communications mode, than ssb, for a given power level. That's 17 db over unprocessed ssb audio and 11 db over processed audio with clipping and compression of 6db. This is one of the main attributes that cw has enjoyed over phone. 73 Roy WA4DOU

You are absolutely right John. We tried FT8 on Field Day. It's a good mode

for filling your log or working on awards but, in my opinion it has very little value for anything else. We were running QRP and I think we had 18 FT8 contacts. It wasn't worth the trouble. 73 de Dave, NI9M

Late Saturday afternoon, I fired up my KX2 on 20 Meters and in a pretty short time I had made 5 contacts using SSB Phone. 2 to Florida, 2 to West Virginia and 1 to Ohio. All using the internal battery. It was fun, but I needed to
shutoff the radio and get back to what I was working on. David Martin - NA1MH - Mountain
