Wilderness NC40A sked?
Michael N6MST
This is cross-posted in a few IO groups, just FYI.
I have a virgin Wilderness 40A Rev C and want to start sea trials with another 40A. Whether it is a qrp-tech 40A, a Norcal version, or a Wilderness kit, all are good in my mind. Anyone with a 40A interested in a sked around 1000 or 11oo zulu? Thanks all, Mike N6MST

Hi I have one more question to ask and that is what gauge wire is used for the toroids T50-2 and T50-6. Kit Nouveau 75, is it #22 gauge magnet wire? thanks, terry

nouveau 75
KM6KJE
Hi, joe I have recently built the nouveau 75 and I have installed the new board you sent me. it seems like it needs a fine tune adjustment but that's what I am writing about it's that when I use the tuner and go up in frequency I lose wattage is that normal at about 3.806 to 3.820 it reads 5 watts on the wattmeter (I am using a Dosy watt meter) when I put it at say 3.900 MHz I get about 3.5 watts is that normally and if not what may be wrong thanks terry KM6KJE

Hi Terry, I don't know anything about this kit or its adjustments. I was not the one who sent you the board. I think you need to contact Dave Cripe, NM0S who is the designer of the nouveau 75. Wish I could help but I'm not qualified to help you on this kit.. 73 Joe W0MQY

This is a 75M transceiver. You should not be transmitting at 8 or 9 MHz.

I was waiting for David or someone to reply but I can confirm that the silk-screen is incorrect. If you look at page 5 of the assembly manual presently on the website it now says that the flat should be oriented toward the right, rather than to the left as indicated by the silk-screen. 73, Bob W9RAN

Re: Nouveau 75 Errata
There are a couple of construction details mentioned in the assembly manual that need repeating here.
1. The main PCB transistor Q2 must be installed with its large flat face oriented toward the RIGHT side of the board. The PCB silk screen is INCORRECT. There are pictures posted that show the transistor installed in the opposite way, these are incorrect. 2. The installation of the heat sink on Q11 is critical. The hardware stackup should be screw, passing through flat washer, back of heat sink, black heat sink pad, back of transistor, lock washer, and nut. The three legs on the heat sink should be snipped off. Before soldering the transistor to the board, check the spacing between the heat sink and the board to make certain that the sink does not contact any of the surface mount components on the board. Readjust the sink on the transistor if necessary. Only then should you solder the transistor down. Finally, be certain that there is no contact between Q11 and Q12 before power up. There have been pictures posted that show an incorrect hardware assembly. If the incorrect assembly is used, it is possible for the screw to contact the tab of Q12. If this happens during power-on, the circuit will be damaged, and somebody will have a bad day. 73 Dave NM0S

I always believe the schematic first. Identify
the drain lead on Q2 (from data sheet). Then, using an ohmmeter,
identify the pad on the board which is connected to C9. The drain
lead goes in that hole. Hope this helps.

Nothing yet. The picture clearly shows the large flat side to the left, matching the marking on the board. However the instructions explicitly say orient it to the right, opposite of the marking on the board. Very confusing. Wonder what the result if oriented the wrong way and power applied?
Best regards,

Has anyone received an answer about the Nouveau 75 Q2's drawing being mis-oriented yet? Looking at the schematic it certainly seems that it is.

Re: Nouveau 75 sensitivity
Dwayne R <masterdr@...>
do not need very much sensitivity for the am radios. I think what you will find out, you will need an extremely strong am signal in order for them to hear you. They may be a 20 db over 9 to you, but you will only be a s2 or s3 to them. Dwayne. Ka0aam

That still sounds a little weak to me, although I'm not an AM expert. A -73 dBm signal is S-9, so you'd think it would be pretty solid. No doubt the % modulation of the signal would come into play. It might be hard to judge the sensitivity of the rig with an unmodulated test signal. I looked at the manuals for the K3 and for the Drake 2B and neither differentiated among different types of signals in their sensitivity specifications. 73- Nick, WA5BDU

For Sale Bayou Jumper
bobby rolph
GM. I am trying to clean up the shack a little bit so I want to Sale a couple of rigs that I never use much anymore. First I have a Bayou Jumper with the newer green faceplate. It also has the Super Upper board installed which adds a couple of features. I am asking $110 shipped to the lower 48 states. The rig could use a little alignment. If you are interested just email me direct at kb4qnr@... and I will send you a couple of pictures. 72/3
