FT 243 crystals

Frank Artieta

Hello !

I hope this is not too much Qrm !

I recently acquired about a hundred ft 243 crystals !

Very few were in the 40 or 80 cw band !
most all in the lot are  3 to 7 MHz

About half have perfect labels !

Texas Crystals ! The screws under the label are completely covered by the label !

So it appears these crystals are not been opened since the labels were put on them !

I removed the labels on several and what I found was

the original standard government contract crystals

frequency markings on the original are all lower than what was listed in the Texas Crystals label !

sometimes by more than a 1000 kc `s

it appears the company Texas crystals maybe must have bought a quantity of government surplus and

either changed the quartz crystal elements out and/or reground them ?

What I want to do is

do some experiments

try to grind them up to usable frequencies
HC49s and HC49U crystals certainly work well for qrp
But they are not the same thing ~!
I think it could be done !

Ozarkcon 2018

WA0ITP

GM all,

Ocon is coming soon and it will be here before we know it.  This will be our 14th OzarkCon and the 9th at the Stonecastle, IIRC.

It is the highlight of my social calendar and I'm fired up for it again this year.  It has grown substantially compared to the early beginnings - more attendees, new activities, super build session, great food, and great socializing with friends, and of course that wonderful friendly atmosphere.

As you can tell, I'm chomping at the bit.  See you there.

Sorry about that Bill.

We had a typo on the reminder.

I will go ahead at 8:00 pm tonight, for the 80 meter net, then I will call on 3.579 around 8:15 to 8:30.

Thanks for moving to 7:30 with the 40 meter net.

Bill,

I sent a 549 RST, but truth to tell the QSB was so bad that your sig varied from 569 to complete inaudibility.  Altogther I copied about 70 percent of your transmissions.  Temp here 27 deg. F.

Will tune up now on 3.564 mHz and try my luck there.
