Suggestion: can the current "4SQRP - Four State QRP" group's description be modified to add the URL of the club's web page?

I expect that the Facebook group might attract some newcomers... seems to me we should inform visitors of the Facebook splash page to visit the web site, where they can learn all about the club, even if they don't click "join".

Yep!

A lot of people who are anti-FB don't seem to understand how it works and the control they actually have.  And to amplify (only to 5 Watts!) Dale's comments, the real-time back and forth on FB during the Foxhunts simply can't happen via an email forum like Yahoo.

SSS Results

John Lonigro

Well, who says the bands were bad last weekend? We had 12 people make entries for Sunday's SSS and only one of them failed to make any contacts. We also had three people who entered the contest for the first time: David (K5IX), Mark (WG8Y), and Ed (WG5F). Welcome to those three. The winner for September was John (K4BAI) with 25 points. John was followed by Bill (KV6Z) with 21 points and Chas (NK8O) with 14 points. The overall leader for 2017 is Bill (KV6Z) with 149 points, followed by John (K4BAI) with 107 and Chas (W2SH) with 106. In fourth place overall is Gary (KF7WNS) with 95 points. With 3 months to go, I believe each of these 4 people has a chance of finishing the year in first place. And, barring a major upset, all but one will get a certificate (1st, 2nd, or 3rd). This could be an exciting race to the finish!

John (K4BAI) should expect to receive his September first place certificate shortly.

Thanks to all who participated in the September SSS.

Until next month, 72 to all.

Sorry folks who feel this way, but what do you think Yahoo is?  Where do you think they make their money?

Yahoo, AOL, and their new owner Verizon could not really give a crap about Yahoo Groups, which has been a neglected platform already.

I quote Steve Buscemi in Armageddon:  "OK folks, It's time to embrace the horror"

Facebook is far from perfect but very accessible and much more mobile friendly.  Personally though, I'm waiting for that perfect Yahoo Groups alternative. Groups.IO is not it.

We have choices and just pick those that peak our interest at that point in time. When we get bored, we move on to something else - one of the advantages of enjoying a hobby as diverse as amateur radio.  Not playing with all the aspects doesn’t mean the hobby will fail, or in this case, 4SQRP will fail.  Club member have chased their passions before this and am sure will continue to do so in the future; yet the club continues to grow.

The email reflector is NOT as busy during the hunts as it was.. but FB is busier, yet both are utilized more than the reflector was prior to FB initiation. Therefore,.. from ONE prior experience.. maybe not so much concern, and a bit more focus on what we are in the club for.. and take that to the medium that fits our style.

I think the club should not engage with Facebook. The real problem is
not the content other people post, but that to participate you have to
agree to Facebook's terms of service and interact with an advertising
company.

I agree that setting up separate groups like this, particularly when
they exclude those who don't agree to unreasonable terms, separates the
community.

I would think that one would study and understand Facebook before having such strong opinions against. I think a study would show a large percentage of ham and technology based organizations are on Facebook.  QRP  and CW could become much more popular if the rest of the ham communities did not view it as the home of Luddites and Neanderthals. Lighten up and carry on:)

Chas;

I've wished that our group was represented on Facebook as I visit it several times a day.  My prescience there grew after a class reunion.  It's been terrific seeing classmates from kindergarten thru college post notes about their travels and families. I've found several 4SQRP members on Facebook as well.
I also find many posts on our email reflector would be very worthy of a "like" or other vote of support but I rarely take the time to login to yahoo groups to make a comment or post.  I usually receive my email reflector messages in digest form so many of the "calling CQ on 7.122" messages reach me the next day.
There is an OzarkCon Facebook page that tends to get some activity just prior to OzarkCon.  I've enjoyed reading and contributing there.
In any instance or forum, I enjoy the comradery of this group a great deal.
