The signal was crisp and rock steady.  I must admit the filter on the KX3 was helpful.  A decrease in RF gain, a 50 Hz bandwidth.  Oh, how we can be easily spoiled.

Any idea of when the Cricket page will be activated on the web?

Certainly not pushing (I know what a huge job it is getting a web page up and running) but any idea of when the Cricket page might be active?  I sent a kit to a friend of mine down in Alabama and he keeps asking!

I'd better clarify the $86.80 price I quoted in my review of the Rev A version of the Bayou Jumper. That's just for the B.J. Kit, not including any of the options that will be made available in the future.

After a brief change of plans, K7DD and N7XYN will be headed to the Dead Horse State Park and the Verde River for QRPTTF.

This is around the Cottonwood AZ area and should prove to be a goodie for a day trip.

Might even run into Ken WA4MNT while we're there..

Rig will be the KX2/PX3 and the PAR Triband end fed antenna on a 43' fiberglass pole. I'll have a HT on the SOTA calling freq of 144.41 just in case.

There are nice covered Ramadas, a restroom and it sounds like it shouldn't be too full of picnic'ers.

If anyone would like to drop by for some operating time, chit chat or what have you, everyone is more than welcome.

Now all we need is the Propagation Gods to smile upon us so we can make some contacts...

Re: Bayou Jumper Rev A Announcement

Jim Sheldon

With Walter's announcement that the Bayou Jumper "Revision A" transceiver is now shipping, I'd like to add my 2 cents to the fray.  Having built one of the first run of Bayou Jumpers with the old "Dark Green" PC boards and performing extensive modifications to it experimenting with various side tone options, I was extremely fortunate to be selected to do the first kit build version of the Revision A model using an early edition of the instruction manual.

It actually went together easier than the first edition and with the ability to mount the (only) toroid in the build to the underside of the main board (you can do either top or bottom, but pay close attention, they have to be wound slightly differently depending on which side of the main board you mount it on).  I opted for the underside and I would recommend that everyone do that as it makes initial tuneup a heck of a lot easier because sometimes you have to move turns closer together or further apart to get the desired tuning range.  With the toroid on the underside, you have immediate access to the two trimmer capacitors used in setting regeneration & the tuning range.  This means that you can move turns and adjust trimmers WITHOUT removing the front panel.

After building Beta unit 1, I got to help proofread and suggest different ways to do thing to make assembly even easier.  In my opinion, the revised version will live on for many years in the QRP stables of those who build it.

I can also highly recommend the (soon to be available as a 4SQRP kit) Soup'er Up'er option designed by David Martin, NA1MH.  I was able to purchase one of the 10 prototype PC boards he had made and brought to OzarkCon.  It was an easy build after I picked up the parts I didn't have on hand.  It adds the already popular 4SQRP Hi-Per-Mite sharp audio filter, a very stable fine tuning option that doesn't adversely affect the overall tuning range of the Bayou Jumper and it also adds a really nice side tone generator that sounds wonderful as the rig is keyed.  Folks, it don't get much better than that for $86,80 delivered to your door and remember, the proceeds go to fund the fantastic OzarkCon QRP convention every year.

Bayou Jumper Transceiver rev A now shipping

The first two runs of the Bayou Jumper sold out.

With the need for another run of circuit boards, the designers took the opportunity to heed the many
insightful comments of the builders and to make some tweaks and improvements.

Among them are:

revised manual with altered assembly sequencing

     corrected the "reverse tuning" situation

corrected a couple of silk screen marking errors

added more extensive top & bottom silkscreen labels to aid troubleshooting

added pads for an extra tank capacitor to avoid the need to add a turn

provided for either top or bottom mounting of the toroid

added ESD protection components to Q6

allowed Q4 and Q6 to be safely secured to the PCB

made the "touch-crystal-to-antenna-jack" spotting process more convenient

eliminated the "fiddling" with the rotary switch stackup

added many connection pads for accessories such as the Soup'er Up'er

added PCB mounting footprints for an optional pot and switch

added convenient test points for instrument probes

     and a "surprise"

Still the same proven circuit design that has performed so well, and still fits the same Hobby Lobby box.

You're invited to view the Rev A assembly manual now posted on the Bayou Jumper ordering page at

Thank you for supporting the kits which allows 4SQRP to fund,  "Ozarkcon", the premier QRP
Conference of the mid-West, in April each year!
