Re: Second Sunday Sprint - last reminder, I promise...

John Lonigro

Wayne:

If anyone forgets about the SSS tonight, it won't be your fault!  Thanks for sending out those reminders for me.

I want to thank everyone who helped plan and pull off Ozarkcon this weekend.  I can't speak for all participants, but I suspect a great time was had by all.  I certainly enjoyed it.  The prizes were fantastic (and numerous).  The speakers were enjoyable.  The contests had lots of high quality, imaginative entries.  That made voting for the best in each category very difficult, which is the way it should be.

Again, thanks to all who put in those long hours getting this event right.  Now it's time to hook up my antenna and see if I can participate in tonight's SSS.

John, AA0VE

What to bring for the OzarkCon Build Session:

  • Soldering iron with a stand. A small tip on the iron is suggested. This could be a simple 25 watt iron with a bent coat hanger stand.
  • Damp sponge to clean the soldering iron tip
  • Rosin core solder - Kester "44" or similar. Note that we will have some spare solder available.
  • Small wire cutters
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Magnifier and/or light
  • Hilighter to mark off parts as they are installed
  • Cookie sheet with upturned lip to catch stray parts, to reduce static discharge damage to components and to protect the table surface
  • Pair of stereo earbuds or earphones
  • Medium blade slotted screwdriver
  • 50 Ohm dummy load (1 or 2 watts)

Last evenings nets

Wayne Dillon

Good morning all,
What a splendid evening on the bands. Let's start with the folks who managed a check-in:
40m:
WA9PWP, Paul, WI
N5AF, Sam, TX
W2SH, Charles, NJ
N0MII, Jeffrey, MO
KK5IB, Darryl, AR

80m:
WA9PWP, Paul, WI
KV6Z, Bill, OK
N0NBD, Paul, KS
KK5IB, Darryl, AR

So I think that we'll stay with the format of 40m at 19:30 (00:30z) and 80m at 20:00 (01:00z). 80 will likely die as we get into summer with longer daylight hours but that's in the future. Bill had a great signal on 80 but we're just too close on 40, same with Paul - N0NBD. Charles, it was nice to copy you again on 40m and a hearty "well done" to both WA9PWP and KK5IB for a clean sweep. Great to hear everyone ad I look forward to next week.
OK, Other stuff...

To those of you attending the premier QRP event in Branson (OzarkCon, what else) this weekend, you are under strict orders to have a grand time, be safe and be blessed.

The April Second Sunday Sprint is of course this Sunday, lets have a great turnout (I'll be pestering y'all with reminders in John's stead because he'll be in Branson having a grand time I volunteered to do the reminders).

Next Tuesday evening is the NAQCC 150th sprint. 2 hours of great fun so I would entreat you all to get on and make some (lots of) QSOs to support another terrific organization. I know many of you are members so please support this special event, see here for info: www.naqcc.info/contests.html

Is anyone still interested in a PSK31 net on 80m? (3580.5 +/-) Let me know off list. I'm reorganizing the station and it will be configured for PSK in the near future, your call but it won't be on a Wednesday, more likely a Friday as I don't have to get up for work on Saturdays!

Can't think of anything else at the moment so a huge thank you to all who turned out to check-in last evening, if I missed anyone my apologies and I'll try and do better next time.

Well, I was present for both events.  Severe rain, winds and a bit of thunder were only several hours away and the resulting QRN was bad.  Unsurprisingly, Wayne was RST 469 at at best.  Paul, WA9PWP, was a solid 579.  I made the QNI without much joy.

I then tuned up on 80m, fully knowing that the QRN would be worse.  It was.  Wayne was audible but only five-percent readable.  The reliable WA9PWP was RST 369.  My fingers never touched the Junker straight key.

Just a reminder, there will be a 40m net on 7.122 at 19:30 CDT and another net on 3564 at 20:00 CDT. We'll see how conditions pan out. If you copy me please call in, if I don't respond it's likely because I can't hear you but I would appreciate a SWL report on this reflector.
A reminder of the new(ish) protocol - I will acknowledge your call with a "R R pse AS (standby)" until I can form some kind of list. I will then call each station back in turn.
I hope to copy as any as can make it in.
