Re: MODERATOR MESSAGE - Security

C'mon you guys,
That's just kiddie stuff. Get a load of what came out on Tuesday of this week:
"Yahoo Inc last year secretly built a custom software program to search all of its customers' incoming emails for specific information provided by U.S. intelligence officials, according to people familiar with the matter.
The company complied with a classified U.S. government demand, scanning hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts at the behest of the National Security Agency or FBI, said three former employees and a fourth person apprised of the events.
Some surveillance experts said this represents the first case to surface of a U.S. Internet company agreeing to an intelligence agency's request by searching all arriving messages, as opposed to examining stored messages or scanning a small number of accounts in real time.
It is not known what information intelligence officials were looking for, only that they wanted Yahoo to search for a set of characters. That could mean a phrase in an email or an attachment, said the sources, who did not want
to be identified.
"Yahoo is a law abiding company, and complies with the laws of the United States," the company said in a brief statement in response to Reuters questions about the demand. Yahoo declined any further comment."

MODERATOR MESSAGE - Security
Tim N9PUZ
IMPORTANT
I don't know how many of you read the tech news but I thought I'd mention this since a great many of our members use Yahoo email accounts. Yahoo recently publicly announced that up to 500 million Yahoo accounts may have been compromised in a data breach of their systems. What should you do? 1. Change your Yahoo account password. 2. Change your security questions. It is also generally a good idea to use a different password for any Internet account or site to which you subscribe. Now we return to our regular QRP/Amateur Radio Discussions. 73, Tim N9PUZ 4SQRP List Manager/Moderator

SSS is coming this Sunday
John Lonigro
This is your first reminder that the monthly Second Sunday Sprint is this Sunday from 7:00-9:00 pm Central Daylight Time. If you prefer, that's Monday, 0000-0200Z. As always, complete rules and score reporting are available at www.qrpcontest.com/4sqrp (thanks again, Diz). Please enter your score as soon as possible after the contest.
As I've noted multiple times, the 4x4 October Sprint no longer exists, due to the underwhelming participation in 2015. Winner certificates are handed out every month to the participant who snags the most QSO points. There is an annual certificate presented after the December SSS to the participant who garnered the most QSO points during the entire contest period. For this year only the contest period extends from November, 2015 to December, 2016. Starting in 2017, the contest period will last from January to December each year. Finally, if you participate but are not able to make any QSOs, please report a score of 0, just to let me know people are interested in participating. 72 and good luck in the contest. John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator

I noticed that you sent your post to the mailing list owner account and not to the list itself so I'm replying and including the list so you'll perhaps get some more traction here! I think the programs you mention are all solid contenders. At one time or another I have used or tried all of them. I can't offer a comparison and pluses or minuses because for the past few years I've been using FL-Digi. I don't know how much updating takes place currently for the free version of Digipan. FL-Digi (free) and DM360 (Part of HRD) are both actively developed and maintained. Being frugal, oh alright, "cheap", I use FL-Digi. It also has the advantage, for me, of being available for both Windows and Linux systems. I really enjoy the digital modes. Not being the best CW op around, I find that I can often make contacts with the digital modes when I cannot copy CW very well. I never use more than about 25-30 Watts and find that under most conditions 5W contacts even to DX stations are pretty solid. Tim N9PUZ, aka 4SQRP Mail List Wrangler.

I spotted this device on the old interwebz, its a Chinese home RF diathermy machine for removing fat, wrinkles, crows feet, B.O., and other skin afflictions. I wasn't aware that RF had this effect, but I'm sure it's why there are so many older hams who just don't look their age. Report from Mt Magazine
Darryl J Kelly
Please allow me to explain my reason for not reporting a good time for operation. I am travelling with my wife, my sisters and their husbands so I really couldn't be specific about the times of operation. My operation was not contest style but holiday style. Also instead of hiking to the summit, about a mile hike, I decided to operate off the deck of our cabin, so I could operate most of the evening. This may not count as a true SOTA operation, but I did not guarantee that. I'm sorry to not be more specific, but will try to do better in the future.
Darryl, KK5IB/T

Re: Mt Magazine Activate
random.path
I put an alert for your activation on sotawatch.org, but since I didn't know what time you would be there, I estimated 1830Z and that was too early for the alert to transfer to the spot list (which looks for you on the reverse beacon network). Next time you go to a summit, put an alert in for your estimated time, and/or put a spot in when you start operating. You'll get a pile up, usually. 73 Chip AE5KA
