W6SFM Bug Roundup Event is coming soon! Save the Date

SFMARC W6SFM

Announcing W6SFM's BUG ROUNDUP

The Samuel F. Morse Amateur Radio Club, a Sacramento, California based CW enthusiast club wanted a special time to bring bug operators together on the air. In the same spirit as ARRL's Straight Key Night, participants are encouraged to make simple, conversational, “chewing-the-fat” QSOs using their bug type key. This is an opportunity to exercise, share and exhibit your personalized fist. This is NOT a contest. However, there is a very easy and quick registration form found at https://w6sfm.com/bug-roundup/. Once you've optionally registered for the event simply Call "CQ BR" so folks know you are a Bug Roundup Participant.  So lets grab that bug, clean those contacts, and let’er fly! We want to hear that “Banana Boat / Lake Erie Swing" or that commercial KPH/WCC quality fist.

Reserve the date! The event begins on Saturday May 16th (00:00 UTC) and concludes Monday May 18th (00:00 UTC)
That's 5:00 PM Friday evening until Sunday 5 PM Pacific Time (LOCAL)

For more information, to register your station, and to help assist in spotting, potentially increasing QSOs, an On-line chat window link can be found near the bottom of Bug Roundup home page located at  https://w6sfm.com/bug-roundup/  We hope to hear you all on the air! 73,

W6SFM

Rick,

Yes the case is part of the kit, very slick.   The mic that comes with it is an electret speaker-mic (speaker not implemented) and it sounds fine.  You can mess around implementing external PTT and audio if you must but it is not as simple as you might think due to how these mics are wired.   I use a TRRS extension cord because the right angle plug kept adjusting my transmit gain knob for me.

The biggest flaw was in the receiver AGC which has since been corrected by implementing a daughter board that retrofitted the original PC boards and now I understand new boards have this circuitry on the main board (which is pre-assembled).    A small number of units had modulator problems which have also been corrected, so to my knowledge there's no reason not to buy the Nouveau 75.   You can read about my experience with the early version here: https://tinyurl.com/w5saw83

Re: 40 and 80 Meter Net Report

John - KK4ITX

Yes Dale, I am aware of the overlap in use and not placing blame but I often bring up the issue to perhaps get the 4S frequency moved to avoid the QRM.  I had my FT-450D filter at 300 and could still hear them at 7121 around an S4-5.  They were clearly centered on 7125 well within their rights, no problem here on that score..... but pretty wide.

There is often interference to deal with as I work 95+% QRP and that’s part of the game, usually when I can, I just quietly move away from it but that’s not an option when I am chasing a Net.

I figure that being just a handful of miles from the Gulf Coast makes it even more likely for me to have an issue, it’s not uncommon here.

John
