Would love to, but I’m in a hotel in Colorado, down in a valley by the river.  Not good for already bad propagation.

FB on the new KX2. Make sure you try it for the SSS tonight at 7:00
CDT (sneaky way to advertise it). Go to QRPCONTEST.COM for complete
rules and score reporting. We have thunderstorms in the forecast. My
antenna will remain disconnected if the storms show up.

2016 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt - NEXT Sunday!

Larry W2LJ <w2lj@...>

The 2016 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt is only one week away! Although it seems like a lot of Skeeters are being hunted this year; assuredly the NJQRP Skeeters will be out hunting only for fun!

I'm not going to bore you will the rules, you can go read those for yourself at http://www.qsl.net/w2lj/

I did want to make everyone aware of two things, however. First, you still have until next Saturday to apply for a Skeeter number, Remember, you don't have to operate from the field to be a Skeeter; but it's SOOO much fun - why would you ever not want to? Just send an e-mail to w2lj@arrl.net and you will be added to the roster. You will get a confirming e-mail back containing your Skeeter #. If you applied in the past, but did not receive an e-mail back from W2LJ, you need to check the Skeeter Roster. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KJWpvDDBZibCMqna_qGXF3Ayg8KdEw5f1N8K6ByGMe4/edit#gid=880964485

If you don't see your call sign and name, then you will need to send another e-mail

Secondly, after the Hunt, and you've recovered from all the fun you had - don't forget to send in your log summaries. QSO by QSO logs are not necessary; but photos, videos and soapbox comments are encouraged and are most welcome. That's the other half of the fun of the NJQRP Skeeter Hunt - seeing how and what your friends and QRP contemeporaries are doing.

I've tried to make the rules as simnple and self=explanatory as possible; bt should you still have a question, please do not hesitate to fire off an e-mail to w2lj@arrl.net

Happy Hunting!

Ok Charles,
My balun is switchable from 1-1 or 4-1 so I will give that a try tomorrow. It sure is a dandy radio and I and having a great time learning. thanks for the tip on the balun.

It’s a great radio. It’s ever so slightly confusing when you also have
a KX3, but that’s why I have a copy of the manual on my laptop and
iPad. The tuner is nothing short of amazing. It will match a hairpin,
if you plug it in. Try a 1:1 current balun with the doublet. You will
limit your losses even more. A good 1:1 balun design has negligible
loss, but a 4:1 can have considerable loss. Not a big deal at 100
watts but a huge deal at 5 watts.

Have fun. I sure do!

Re: Help with 4S-Tuner

ag1p@...

GE Ken,

3 things to consider -

1) Make sure it isn’t a 3-position switch.  If it is, make sure switch is thrown all the way over.

2) Check the solder joints on the jumper that crosses the two lugs on the switch closest to the edge of the board.

3) Putting too much heat on a lug when soldering and melting the case which requires a new switch.

Hope this helps

OT: New supply of 12V 17AH batteries

Jim Sheldon

I just received a set of 16 Panasonic LC RD1217P valve regulated, medical grade, 12 volt, 17 Amp hour SLA batteries. These are next to new and are pulls from a portable X-Ray machine. The particular hospital changed maintenance contractors not too long after they were installed. The new contractor required the equipment to have all new batteries at the beginning of the contract so these were pulled and disposed of to my battery supplier.

They are too heavy to ship but are available to anyone willing to pick them up in the Wichita area. Allied Radio sells them for $106.00, Amazon has them for $63.00 but I'm allowed to make them available to area hams for $20 each or two for $30. This will be the only price break though and a case of 4 would be $60.
There are 4 cases available at these prices.

These will be fully tested like new and fully charged, ready to use. They can be charged with just about any standard 12 volt charger.

Interested persons contact me off the reflector please - w0eb@cox.net. Any not sold by the end of September will be at the Wichita hamfest.

Jim, W0EB

Re: Help with 4S-Tuner

deadgoose@...

Usually, there is a jumper across one end (the "out" position) wires on the center (wiper) pairs go to input and output jacks of the tuner. Remaining two contacts (other end of the switch) go to the tuner in/out.

Help with 4S-Tuner

Ken Harthun

Hello!

I recently built the antenna tuner and in one way, it works great. But I think I goofed on something: it only works with the in/out switch in the "in" position. After I tune up, if I switch it to "out," all the signals disappear. I think I wired the switch wrong. Anyone else had this problem and can tell me what's wrong? If not, I'll figure it out, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask since I'm probably not the only one who has had this problem.

Thanks, de Ken W4KGH
