Re: KXPD2 or KXPD3 inquiry

Hi Paul, the bolt on paddles with the KX3 all seemed to be very stiff.
From reading the yahoo groups for the KX Series, some of the guys
are saying the new KX2 paddles are much better.

There is no one around my QTH that has the factory paddles, that
I know about.

Shoot me but probably the best of the best is the  Begali Adventure:

That is what I am looking to buy a little later. For now I am using
the Begali Signature in the house and  DCP paddles in the go-bag.

The KX2 is quite a nice little rig. Receiver great and almost up to
the KX3 in DSP and sensitivity.

KXPD2 or KXPD3 inquiry

Paul Smith

Does anyone on here within a reasonable driving distance from Humboldt, KS have either of the KX paddles? I hope to be able to order my KX2 this week. I sure would like to feel the Elecraft paddles before I shell out over a hundred dollars for one. I remember my bitter disappointment with the attached paddle I ordered with my PFR 3. It was CRAP.  I did manage to sell it to a guy and nearly got my money out of the deal.
I may just use what I have for now and see what comes along.
Thanks in advance. I sure wish summer would get done. I am sick of the heat!

A group of clubs in St. Louis tried this a few years ago.  Bob Heil was instrumental in promoting it as I remember, but it was not a very successful venture and was a "one-time" effort.  The venue was very expensive and the unions made it very expensive for the commercial vendors as far as loading and unloading and display setups.  I don't think you will see anything like the Dayton Hamfest in the St. Louis area or Kansas City, and I am sure that DARA would not want to try to do a Hamfest outside of the Dayton area.  I'm just happy they haven't thrown in the towel after loosing HARA Arena.   W0DF

Xenia is 14.9 miles or 22 minutes from FDIM.  FDIM is 15 miles or 30 minutes from HARA.  IMHO, this is a good move.  None of the other Dayton events need to move.

It's hosted by one of the local clubs DARA in Dayton so they would not consider anything that isn't close to Dayton so the can continue being the host, too much money involved to give it up.

Exactly.

Any club or groups could have built up a large worldwide amateur radio
convention in any locale one cares to mentions. They didn't and DARA
did. Hamvention is DARA's project and they get to hold it where they
see fit. For the sake of their own sanity I do hope that the Xenia
location works out well for them. This has to be an unbelievable
undertaking every year and it would tax my dedication being involved
after only a few years. I think the amateur radio community really owes
the folks in DARA a huge thank you for the consistency they brought to
Hamvention. I attended '99 through '04 and in '06 and enjoyed each
year.

That would be nice.  Right on scenic highway 35 and 15 miles closer to home.  Also 15 miles further from Dayton’s decay.  The 20 minute drive from Dayton’s hotels is probably shorter than what I do from hotel to HARA.

Hello Gang:

Just a quick report that we held the first meeting of the
Four States QRP Group today here in Seneca, Missouri and
we had a blast! We had 10 QRP'ers in attendance, plus two
spouses and one son. Not too bad for our first get-together.

The record for the greatest distance traveled goes to Rick
Clem, W0IS who drove here from St. Paul, Minnesota. Guess
the word is out that Barney's Kitchen serves a pretty good
lunch!

After lunch, we adjourned to the city park for some
on-the-air fun. Dennis Foster, KK5PY demonstrated a couple
of neat portable antennas and a FT-817 set-up.

Pictures and the full report are on the web at:

Looks like we will do it again next month!
