I have been busy with antennas and shack improvements.  New tribander for 10 15 20  and new wires for 30m and 80m and 17/12m and all new feedlines.  4 new ropes and pulleys for the wires.  Trying to get antenna work done before winter.  Stripped out all old cables from the shack and tower and put in all new grounding and got rid of lots of evils, like ground loops and received noise.   Much lower noise levels on all bands but especially 160 80 and 40.   More to do this week, including fine tuning the wires.  Then back to the bench for more kits!

Today I've got a Fluke 435 with a couple of leaky capacitors.  I recently moved and have been going through my hoarded test equipment as I move it over.

Recently finished installing the spot function on my 4SQRP station (SS-40, NS-40, SVXO, Magic Box). A little bit of a chirp, but not shameful so I'm going with it.  Helps me make contacts because everyone want to tell me about the tiny chirp, Hah!  I have been slowly improving that station for 9 years now!  Wow!  I really am a slow builder!

Slowly plugging away on the QRP Labs 50W Amplifier for my QCX+.  I'll run it at 15V (about 30W) when I really need to dig deep to BUST a pile up ha ha.  Winding the trifilar transformer at T-1, then getting it properly mounted on the board was a challenge for me!  First time I botched it, but second time I got it done.

Not sure what's next, but given the Covid winter ahead, there will certainly be more! / Woody / WD9F

I have a couple projects going right now.  (The couple Hilltoppers are waiting to be built.)  I just finished putting together a QCX+ for 40 meters but have not tuned it up or aligned it to date.  I am in the process of putting together a QRPometer. Besides that I am now collecting parts to build a Whaddon MK III "Tinker Box"  HF transmitter clone.  (WW2 Spy Transmitter)

First, let me say that I have built many 4sqrp kits.  However my next build will be the new QCX that has come out in the last 6 to 8 months.  Just what I need, a new QRP rig Hi.  We here in south East Kansas have what I think is a fantastic and active club with some extraordinary members.  We have a builder club within the club which gives members the opportunity for “hands on training” and experience the satisfaction of creating ones own equipment.
We are, of course, not having building sessions at present due to COVID-19 but hope to resume sometime in 2021.  The light at the end of the tunnel is now visible, things are looking up with the new solar cycle starting and a vaccine for COVID in the near future, so hang in there the “new normal” is just around the corner.

Anyone else have some fun projects lined up?

Gm Tim and the Group

We have had both frosty mornings and
A light snow already, in Se Ks.

I agree, it’s time to clean the bench up and get busy.

I’ve got a original AC-1 Tx that needs a new power cord and a 80 meter tank coil wound.

I have a UBitx version 3 that needs to be modified before it goes on the air.
These little rigs are pretty basic, and
It would benefit from a AGC module, as
Well as some harmonic upgrades.

Other than these, I still have a “stash”
Of un built kits that have accumulated over the years.

No doubt, plenty to stay busy with this winter.

We’re discussing plans of “how” and
“If” we can have Ozarkcon next spring and keep the attendees safe from the
Bad bug.

It sure would be nice to get back to somewhere near normal.

I need to put up some antennas (G5RV, Vertical, & EFLW) and get to work on some kits (incl. a QRP-O-Meter and a couple of Pixies).  I've just been goofing around and letting stuff pile up...gotta get off my duff and do something!

SSS Results

John Lonigro

Well, for a moment I was excited.  After entering the data, I did a sort to see who bubbled up to the top spot this month.  Lo and behold, my callsign showed up!  But then I realized I had sorted the list in ascending order, meaning the lowest score showed up first. Yep, that was me, with a big fat 0 for the year.  After correcting my mistake, I found that Chas, W2SH, is now in sole possession of 1st place for the year.  Chas has 150 QSO points.  In second place was John, K4BAI, with 144 points.  John didn't show up this month, which dropped him into second place from a tie for first place.  In third place for the year is Nick, WB5BKL, with 136 points.  Any one of these three people has a decent chance to wind up in first place at the end of the year, which is only a month away.

For November, our intrepid president, Johnny (AC0BQ) gets the honors for finishing first.  Johnny had 9 QSO points.  His certificate will be sent shortly.

The scores this month are noticeably lower, probably due to an overlap with the final two hours of the ARRL CW November Sweepstakes.  Well, I don't believe there will be any conflicts with the final month of our 2020 Second Sunday Sprint.  Let's hope there is a lot of activity in that final opportunity to either finish first for the month or, better yet, to finish first for the entire year.

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of the 2020 SSS.  Better yet, why not try to participate and get the December certificate for yourself?

John, AA0VE
