Absent

Sam Neal

Hello,

I will be absent for two consecutive Wednesday evenings due to other
obligations. ( Do I need a note from Mama? )

I should have either the " Lil Giant 6T9 " or the 6F6 rig back on by then,
both of which are crystal controlled, so tune around a bit for us who are
rock-bound.

73,

Sam Neal N5AF

I see from the yahoo page that we have 3 new members in the last seven days. Welcome one and all, we're very glad to have you here and I look forward to meeting you on the air.
Don't forget to check out the Wednesday evening nets, they're a lot of fun.
Perhaps I could persuade each of you to post a short message about yourselves, what aspects of ham radio interest you and what kind of station you run (always interested to hear about antennas that work for you!)

Re: POSSIBLE j HURRICAN STORM NOISE ON 20-METERS?

ke4d@...

Just a rain event in the US. We currently live on the TX/Mexico border and its coming down hard this morning. Maybe some flash flooding here, worse further east in TX but no wind issues at this point. The Cat 5 Hurricane is long gone and just a rain making system now.

Well ops from Hutch were not great

Paul Smith

I read W1PIDs stories of his outing and contacts. I operated from the Hutchinson park while my wife was at her meeting. My operating was nothing like i have read about. I worked KB5JO he was near Houston TX. and was one watt. Anyhow the wind blew like crazy and blew my antenna down twice but was a fun time anyhow.

I will try harder next time. de Paul N0NBD

On an RV forum, someone asked, "I'm in Florida. Where should I go if a
hurricane is coming?" The best answer was, "Michigan."

We're full-timers in southern Illinois and Missouri for the next few
weeks. We'll monitor the weather, and if things are forecast to get
nasty where we are we'll forfeit our campground fees (if necessary) and
go elsewhere.

BTW, we got chased out of one campground earlier this year. About 6:00
one morning the Ranger was knocking on the door to tell us the river was
rising and they were going to close the campground by noon. When we left
at 8 the river was maybe 6" below the road and rising. The flood
eventually covered the power pedestals (about 3' tall).

POSSIBLE j HURRICAN STORM NOISE ON 20-METERS?

Phil Anderson

Hey All,

I have a Panadapter (spectrum display) attached to my Electraft K3 and the CW portion of the 20-meter band has some strange noise on it; it's like noise spikes every few kHz.....looks kinda like a busy CW contest but it is all just noise. Take a look if you have a Panadapter or just tune up and down that portion of the band and listen.

I'm guessing it is due to the category 5 (potentially the worst on record) hurrican about to hit Mexico. Thoughts?

Uncle Phil, W0XI, Lawrence, KS. 1:27 PM. This noise was not on the band earlier this morning.

If it is not raining cats and dogs I will be trying to operate from the South park where the frisbee golf is in Hutchinson KS. I will have my MTR and MTR endfed around the waterholes. Otherwise it is sit in the Union and read while my wife is in a half day meeting. I hope the rain clears. Give a listen I will try to post on QRPSPOTS.

Being offered here for sale,
a very nice SB-220 amp, asking $600 plus actual packing and
shipping by a carrier of your choice, suggested UPS.

If no responses, it will go to an auction site of my choice,

More photos and description on request,
please contact me directly, not through the reflector.this is from K7ANG (sk).

Tubes are good, transformer is good...

I know.. no self respecting QRP op would own one.. ...  ... or would he???
Just like the SB-104a and HR-HT twins.. they all look so nice all together..
and all but the 220 work qrp just great!

OK all,
Full disclosure here, my "proper shack" is boxed up and safe while I do some re-modelling so... This week I was using the FT817/Z817/1/2 size G5RV. Next week I'll likely be using my..... HW8, the week after probably my KX3 and the week after that maybe my QRP+, after that I hope to be back in "The Shack"!
So next week you may have to tune around a little to catch me but that's all part of the fun right?
