Question about a qrp rig
Tom Crow
Hello to everyone in the group. I recently purchased some qrp radios that belonged to Paul Daulton (K5WMS). (silent key) One of those is a Centennial SSB (REV 1) 40 meter radio, which was designed by Mr. Daulton. My question is, does anyone know where I may be able to obtain a schematic for this rig? I have googled and binged and haven't gotten anywhere. Was it ever in production (it appears he had the board made by Far Circuits, haven't been able to find a valid email address)? I have seen the schematic for the 80 meter SSB/CW rig, but its a good bit different. this one is SSB (no CW) I appreciate any and all assistance on this Tom N5TTI

Re: Suffix/Prefix
Jeremy Utley
In most cases, it's not the ITU who defines whether it's a prefix or suffix, it's entirely defined by the treaty by which you are given reciprocal privledges, or what the "hosting" country designates. Just as an example, a BC, Canada ham in the US would sign VE7XXX/W7 - because that's what the treaty allowing reciprocal privledges between the US and Canada defines. For CEPT, or IARP, those treaties specify that the "hosting" country comes before the callsign - I.E. G/NQ0M or whatever. If you're not under reciprocal agreements, the "host" country can either assign you a full callsign from their own block, or they can say that you use a Prefix/HomeCall.Jeremy

Re: Suffix/Prefix
I believe you are correct. It was about that time the ITU changed the international regulations to require the prefix rather than the suffix. Don HC4/W4BWS

Suffix/Prefix

Greetings,
I'm pretty sure I remember, when I was a youngster on the air (1960s), stations would add the country identifier after their callsign: K4AXF/HC3. It wasn't until the 1990s that I started hearing: HC3/K4AXF. Or is my memory faulty? 72, Jim K4AXF Ten-Tec Corsair, G5RV Grottoes, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia

Re: /mm this morning
Correct, that is why I sign HC4/W4BWS. However, as I read and understand the way the FCC stated the Part 97 rule, If you add a prefix or suffix that is assigned to another country it is not legal.

I believe the proper format for ID when in a foreign country is to
use the area as a prefix - such as G3/W3FPR, rather than as a
suffix.

Re: /mm this morning

Hi Jim,
I heard a station about 20 minutes before the net start but he
was 229.
I thought it was you but most probably was Bruce AA5CO in
Tulsa.
Checking in to the SRN was no problem on the Alex Loop and the
HB-1B with Al's booming signal from Tennessee.
It was windy and I had to keep turning the boat because it
sounded like a better signal when the loop was broadside to the
east.
My use of the "/mm" indicator opened up the
usual bag of worms, but I'll probably continue use it.
After all, technically, the use of "/m" by hundreds of
thousands of hams to indicate 'mobile' is technically a federal
offense.
Anyway, next time I'll try to remember to give you a heads up,
and, as the weather gets cooler I'll be out there more.
I'm so glad you joined the Four States group.
This group is so much fun and the members are the best
bunch of people you'll ever meet in ham radio.
Maybe see you on the SSS this Sunday?
Good luck on the fox hunt tonight.
