RSS and XML feed services
Phil Anderson
Hello All,
I'm just curious; what other than XML (to auto-feed call sign data to your logging program (like for N3FJP 4.6) are you using RSS type feeds for in your amateur radio activity? I'm thinking instead of typing in www.dxmaps nearly every day that I might like an auto info feed from there.....but not thought out what and how to limit the data? What say ye? August SSS Results
John Lonigro
Enclosed are the results from the August SSS. Bill (KV6Z) has a commanding lead, but there's still hope for Terry. Others would seem to be out of the running, but, as they say, "it ain't over till it's over".
About a month from now, after the September Sprint results are in, I'll announce the 2014 overall winner. Guess I need to get busy designing some sort of certificate for the top three scores. The certificates will be emailed to the winners. If I do a good job, they may even be suitable for framing. 72 until next month, John AA0VE

2014 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt
Larry Makoski <w2lj@...>
On behalf of the New Jersey QRP Club, I'd like to thank all of you who participated in the 2014 Skeeter Hunt. A good time was had by all! We had a record 159 QRPers sign up for Skeeter numbers and so far 30 log summaries have been submitted. An event like this cannot be a success without your participation, and it seems like we're getting that and more - we're growing in size!
Don't fret about submitting your log as you still have time - but not forever! Log submissions are due when the clock strikes Midnight on Sunday, August 24th turning into Monday, Augyst 25th - that's two whole weeks after the event. You can send your summaries, soapbox comments and photos to w2lj@arrl.net And if you didn't have a Skeeter number, but you joined in on the fun, send in your summary anyway. We've already received two submissions from Non-Skeeters and the highest scoring wingless one will also receive a certificate, Thanks again! 73 de Larry W2LJ Skeeter #13 --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Re: PROPOSAL: 4SQRP TO ND SPRINT
John,
Although I just did complete the needed states and confirmations for WAS for two different WAS awards, within the last week or so, FORMALLY, for the first time in 49 years, since I have never chased any paper, I haven't yet read the rules for the awards. Might be a good idea if I did that sometime, but I have no worries, since I don't even know how to use any of the Reverse Beacon Networks or anything like that. I don't think there is any problem with arranging schedules. There are those Century Club Nets that have been around for years and the ARRL Centennial is currently going very strong, which both are some form or other of arranging a contact to get states, bands, and modes. Then most distance records recognized by the ARRL are very precisely timed and scheduled. I know you are correct about some contests not allowing certain types of communications that are scheduling or have a close relationship to actual scheduling. However again I "think" some contests do allow at least some scheduling, such as EME contests. I have often heard stations check into a net and then being asked by other net participants to move to a different frequency so that they can work a "needed" station for an award. I have heard it happen many times over the years on at least the Kansas Sideband Net on 3.920. The Kansas net as most nets are, is widely published and people "needing" Kansas, just for an example, do from time to time go there with the express purpose of calling a station in Kansas and usually moving them off frequency to get that state in their log. I am certainly not advocating anything that in any way would violate any rules or policies. Take away computers and see how ANY event drops in the number of stations worked and multipliers, even though in the old days you couldn't use any aid, even a fellow ham across town "spotting" a station for you. 72, Charlie, W5COV On 8/11/2014 5:26 AM, 'John R. Re: PROPOSAL: 4SQRP TO ND SPRINT
John Lonigro
I'm not much of a contester and must confess I don't know the rules for WAS. Is it permissible to use prearranged schedules in order to obtain a state? I'm pretty sure it's not for a lot of contests.

On the other hand, Phil's sprint suggestion sounds like a good idea to me. Isn't that the purpose of the various state QSO parties? OF course, being strictly QRP and having a tight window would make it different. 72, John AA0VE

Send in your score
John Lonigro
It's Monday. If you didn't participate in the SSS last night, your next chance won't be until September.
If you DID participate in the SSS last night, don't forget to send in your results so I can tally them. You've got until midnight tomorrow (Tuesday) night to get them in. This is your only reminder to send in your score. Send an email with your results to: SecondSundaySprint@4SQRP.com Put "Sprint" in the subject line. Don't "reply" with your results. This is my everyday email. I have a special one set up for sprints. Results should be posted around Wednesday. Thanks and 72, John, AA0VE SSS Coordinator

Re: PROPOSAL: 4SQRP TO ND SPRINT
Such an event just might encourage more members from more states to
join, for just that purpose. I just received an e-mail from a fellow
ham in KS, that needs OK on some modes and bands and I need the same
from KS, plus some other close in states especially.
I am always happy to accommodate anyone needing OK, or Nowata County, on any band and pretty much any mode, if at all possible. I receive MANY DX stations that are county hunters sending me a request for my county and so far we have been 100 % successful. Sometimes it has taken more than one schedule to do it, but I'll hang in there until we complete and working QRP as a primary mode, I do a lot of weak signal listening to help all that I can. I also use LoTW and eQSL and paper QSL's sent to me require no postage or envelope to get one back. Charlie, W5COV On 8/10/2014 10:02 PM, Gary Ekker

Sounds like a grand idea unc. Why not do the sprint in lieu of the Wednesday evening nets one Wednesday each month? Just a thought but whatever you decide I'll play if i'm around.

Re: PROPOSAL: 4SQRP TO ND SPRINT
The station that I worked the other day on 20 meters JT65 was K0PBA.
I haven't contacted him yet, but normally JT65 operators run QRP or close to it. So we have another possibility. I made a mistake, it was NV that I worked to finish one award and worked by chance, two NV stations in a row, both in different towns. Charlie, W5COV On 8/9/2014 6:16 PM, 'Jay Bromley'
