Was out doing the SOTA thing this past weekend. Australia on 10m CW with
3 watts into an AlexLoop Walkham in the late afternoon. No doubt the
other end had the big gun antenna, but still a lot of miles per watt!
Finland & Germany too, but those were a lot closer......
Wish I could make OzarkCon this year. Sounds like some of the SOTA regulars will be there too. Chip AE5KA

Bit off-topic but ham-related
David Lininger
Moderators, I hope you will accept this one post on the topic. We're
having an auction next weekend, 5 April, and there is a fair amount
(well, enough to fill a typical hamfest table) of various ham-related
stuff. Anyway, the auctioneer isn't familiar with this type of stuff, so
he suggested that I let other hams in the area know about it. Hence
this post.Thanks. -- David, kb0zke Rev. 2:10c

FOX: FOXHUNT TONIGHT!!
Dale Putnam
There's going to be a Fox hunt tonight.. on 3.560 plus of minus 10khz (or kc for the older crowd)
starting at 7pm Mt.. or 0100z (for the younger crowd).... there will be two Fox about.. K9XE and The Wily Western Fox... - WC7S in Wy.. The Fox are usually split so one is in the higher half.. and one is in the lower half... AND.. the fox usually calls: FOX WC7S up...... meaning you call him up about 1 - 2 kc higher... and if you listen to that freq.. for the space of one call.. or even one letter you can tell if someone else is on your freq.. if there is someone there.. MOVE a little bit.. not a lot.. just a bit.. and the FOX.. will find you.. Call with your callsign, just ONE time... listen.. if the FOX isn't calling you.. move a tiny bit to a clear spot.. call him again.. one time... listen.. if he isn't callin you.. or anyone.. move again.. call again.. listen.. This will make it so much faster for everyone.. the key to the whole thing.. is first finding the fox.. second finding a calling spot third getting heard by the FOX.... And later.. the FOX will be listening on his own freq too.. so you can work him simplex.. that makes it easier.. So.. set up and get ready.. we're going to have a FOX HUNT!!! Have a great day, --... ...-- Dale - WC7S in Wy

Fox Announcement 80M 27 March
Dale Putnam
Ray, K9XE, and I will be the 80M foxes tomorrow evening. I will be running 5W using a K-2 at 5w into a Bow Tie at 50 feet or a top loaded vertical on a 65x25 nearly flat steel roof The QTH is Cheyenne, Wy. I'll start off listening up 1, but may switch to simplex later in the hunt. I hope to work all of you. I'll turn the vertical to peak the loudest signal, from each of you, please spread out some, to allow a better ode de hound to be found. There is a slight possibility of thunderstorms in the area, so if I disappear, that may be why! It might be a good thing the winter season is coming to an end..... But don't forget the Extravaganza .... and that we will be honoring Al.. during that event!! All Fox will be named Al, in his honor, as a long participant of these Foxhunts.
