Before the Bayou Jumper transceiver there was Le Sauteur de Bayou Receiver

FYI,
I still have a bare board for this receiver and may build it soon. 73 - john - n0hj

Re: Need help with software for Modular 40 meter CW transceiver from Aug 2016 QST
Richard Dodd
Dave,
I'm so glad you got yours working. That was such a fun project. I think there is a bug in the version on github. Sometimes the voltage displayed doesn't refresh when coming out of the menus. It happens if you have a really stable supply. It only updates when the voltage changes so it just never updates. I think it was a pretty simple fix. If you experience that, I can find the fix in my code and relay it to you. 73, Richard

Re: Need help with software for Modular 40 meter CW transceiver from Aug 2016 QST
Thanks for posting this Richard, you've re sparked my interest in your rendition of the 49er vfo project.
I really like your code layout and the features that you added. I was able to tinker with your project and got it to compile using the Arduino 1.8.12 IDE on ubuntu Linux. I then noticed some quirky behavior and have added the code changes that you specified in the pdf. I was also a little puzzled by the arduino output 13 keying the rig with +5V and decided that this output would drive an opto-isolater that would key the rig. I made a call and was quickly picked up on RBN. Now I'm working on reducing the BCI. Thanks for putting your code out there for an interesting project. 73 Dave ab9bz

Gary, I use N3FJP's AC Log. The contest guys use N1MM, I think. Larry W2LJ

Hi Larry, Thanks for the announcement. Is there a recommended logging program to support FQRP Sprints? I know that NAQCC and 4SQRP have theirs. Was wondering what most FQRP folks use. Thanks. Best regards, Gary, K7EK FP #639 ---

Re: Parasets
Hello Tom I read it. It’s a great book. They even mention our earlier version of the Bayou Jumper! 72 Johnny ACØBQ

Parasets
Thomas Martin
Not sure if anyone notice in the new QST they had a book listed it was "The Paraset Radio Story of WWll Spry-radio and How to build one by Hirki Kato. It gives some very interesting history of the set where they were used by whom. There are listing for groups that have plans and parts for the original units using tubes. This very interesting reading considering the interest in Bayou Jumper by this group. tom k0amd

There is a groups.io group for this project (SoftwareControlledHamRadio). However, newer projects by the author have taken over the content.
I wrote my own firmware for the VFO and made it available to the group. I think the files have disappeared from the group files area. However, the PDF instructions are still there. The source for my firmware is here in github: https://github.com/rydodd/SCRadioSoftwareK4KRW I added quite a bit of functionality. If by any chance you live in South Texas check the attic many builders are using a foil backing on the roofing boards they put down to help with heat.

I used an end fed in an attic for over a year and worked all over Europe and some of Asia. Tom K0amd

The article was actually in the March 2016 QST. It was the 49er with the DDS VFO.
The firmware can be found in the zipped folder posted on "QST in Depth" for that month: http://www.arrl.org/files/file/QST%20Binaries/Mar2016/Purdum.zip N5IB

Re: Middle or End
Dave Benson
I'll echo Don's comment about the end-fed antennas. I have the PAR 40M/30M end-fed and very happy with it. It has a single trap about 45 feet out from the feedpoint, and an overall length of 54 feet. I had no trouble setting the lengths for an SWR of 1.2:1 or better. With that success, there's no need for an antenna tuner. I've also built several end-feds for portable operation and had the same success with them. The EF-10/20/40 is 40 feet in length, and could be bent at one end if you don't have enough attic length. Its maximum recommended power is 25 Watts if that's a concern. 73 - Dave, K1SWL

You might try the ARRL website, for supplemental files from that QST article. I believe they had those supplements, even then. Or, look at the original QST article, print or online. Perhaps it is mentioned there, as a footnote at the end of the article. Either way, I hope you find it. ... Jerry Wysocki, KC9JXE

Do you have any trees?

I have been hanging vertical wires from them, even attached right to the trunk for years. Random length as long as possible and use a Icom remote tuner. Invisible to HOA and XYL, all band, have worked the world with 100w ssb, though with sunspots 😀😀 Much better than anything inside. 73, Gary WB6OGD
