Re: seeking variable cap drive pulley (dial cord system)

Kenneth, try Google!
I found this ad for 2 caps with pulleys.
Also looked at Gilbert erector set parts and pulleys. Found lots of pulleys, wheels, and gears for shafts.
If all else fails, and you don't care about visable beauty, build a pulley out of a detergent container lid or medicine bottle cap. I made one about 65 years ago by soldering 2 Mason jar lids (without the rings) back to back. The drive string fit perfectly in the groove.
Punched a hole with a large Phillips screwdriver which left the flutes, forced it on the cap shaft and glued it.
When I was 14 and became a ham, if you didn't have it, couldn't find it, you built it!
It's still fun!
Cheers,
Frank N6CES

I am updating an old Meissner morale Rx that has a teeny cap drive pulley ... about 1.5 inch diameter. Ok for bc but makes tuning sw very touchy. I want to replace that with a three inch pulley, .25 inch shaft. Then with my aux bfo I could tune 4state  cw on a ww 2 Yeah, I know it is impractical.... think of it as performance art. The fun is in fabricating it then seeing that it works.

Does anyone have one, or know of a source (maybe science fair, or hobby robots suppliers, or surplus guys)?

Yes, that part could probably be 3D printed.  I would be happy to do so if someone could provide precise dimensions.  It gets difficult visualizing the possible combinations without actually seeing a similar part.    How wide can it be?  Is the shaft long enough to support a set-screw nub?  Does it need a v for a belt or a slot for a string?  How thick a string.  Once someone had the dimensions and designed and printed a part that actually works...  it could be posted on Thingiverse for any one to download and print.

Anyway, I would try if all those questions get answered.

Regards,

Field Day update:

So far, I have the following people who are planning to attend:

Bert, NØYJ
Chas NK8O
Johnny ACØBQ
Les KEØSOL
Paul NØNBD
Richard WM6L
Terry WAØOIT

Our “to do” list:

  • Make park reservation
  • Decide on # of radios
  • Decide which bands to operate
  • Decide which modes to operate
  • Choose logging method

I’m open for input and comments on any of these, and of course more operators are welcome!

Chas,
I am sure Les will operate SSB as his code is rocky at best..... I need to work with him some more. I intend to order the SOTA band pass filters and after build up will give them a try to see how they work. I will order in January. The SOTA filters are 3 bands on a board. in one enclosure. I did order a 40 meter band pass filter and it works good but I need to get an 80 meter for Richards setup for in the evenings.
Ill ride along and see what comes up. I suspect we can work 80, 40 and 20 meters but would not count on the higher bands unless the prop gods start smiling de Paul

No problem Paul.  I will plan on having that as one of our modes. I was shown last year, operating with my son, that SSB is actually very challenging - much more difficult than CW.  Point of information: My son & I worked 20 SSB and in the time in between I worked over 150 CW contacts!
