Curt- Max-Gain Systems sells fiberglass tubing in various sizes and lengths. If you want 'really strong', they carry solid rod as well. From my experience with PVC, it's somewhat brittle at cold tempe

If indeed the power cube is linear, and adequate in voltage and current - it can be tamed with a simple regulator circuit. check the QST archives to see if you can find cube tamer article - no worries
