Pig Rig Rocks
Jim ,
Is there a link to it ? Sounds like a project that at
least deserves a good look .

We may have to remove a winding from L1, but maybe not. We're in a "change it

and check it" mode with this. I'll 'spearmint and see what needs to be changed and by how much and pass that info along via the reflector. In any event the changes should be minimal, we just have to see what they are. ---------------------------------- I love this radio stuff ! 72 WAITP www.wa0itp.com www.4sqrp.com www.qrpspots.com ----- Original Message -----

Yes, now is a very good time to build Jim's Precision
VXO :o)

Regarding sorting the crystals, I assume three are for the filter
and one for the oscillator. Is it just the three for the oscillator
that must be close together in actual frequency? Sure wish I'd
built Jom Kortge's crystal checker now... I've had all the parts
for about ten years now...

Terry,
If you are willing to ship half of the xtals to me I would be glad to sort them and test them and ship them to their eventual owners. I would be willing, as well, to pick up the shipping cost to help you out. cu, Bart |

Hello, Are there a set of crystals left for #191 Pig Rig? 72 de Hajo --- Am 07.03.2013 01:06 schrieb "WA0ITP" <wa0itp@...>: |

It has been exciting to see all the chatter on
the reflector about the Pig Rigs and using 7122. It's great to see so
much enthusiasm.
I ordered the crystals today and they will be
delivered mid to late April. Sri that it will take so long but they
are a special ordered frequency (7122.3) to accommodate the heavy loading
in the filter. Meanwhile you can get the PigRigs up and running on the
crystals that Diz sends in the kit.
The 7122 crystals came in a little higher than
expected, but $2 each will still cover them. As mentioned below, I'm
covering the mailing costs myself, no club money is being spent on this
project. Lets wait until they arrive to pay for them. With Ozarkcon coming
on plus some new kits in the works, I really don't have the time
to manage a list right now.
Don't forget to use machined pins or SIP pin
socket for the crystal positions for easy QSYing. Here's picture of
a machined pin IC socket - a source of pins. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Mill-Max/110-99-308-41-001000/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs%2fSh%2fkjph1tvt1%2fmEPT%2fXohCHKUr4WR4Y%3d
and here's a sip crystal socket http://www.wa0itp.com/sip%20crystal%20socket.jpg
Additionally the filter crystals will need to be
sorted to be close enough to each other in frequency to produce a
narrow filter bandwith. I'm guessing that
sorting to 20-30 cycles will be adequate, it will take an oscillator and a
counter as a minimum. We will have to 'spearmint with some sorted sets to
make sure.
Anyone volunteer to sort a few and try them
in their rig to check the opposite
sideband suppression?
Its easy: Try it on your pigrig when you
get up and running to get a feel for it.
. Unhook the antenna to the pigrig
. Switch your big rig to a dummy load and turn
down the power
. Then sweep the big rig past the pigrig and
see if you can hear the opposite sideband as the big rig goes past.
. If it's almost non existent, it's good
enough.
