a short video of some qrp pota work

Hello all,
I recently travelled to FL for a few days, and was able to do a qrp POTA activation of K-3664. I was running about 3w using a (tr)USDX. 30 of my 34 contacts were 20m usb. The last contact of the day was me hunting Thomas Witherspoon K4SWL on 30m cw at a park in NC. I shot a brief video of me trying to bust his pileups with my little rig. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the informative video.  I've completed my CWOps class - now I just have to practice a lot and complete my QRP TR kit.  How do you use the audio recorder to complement your (tr)USDX?

Hi Tom,
I haven’t done cw ops yet. Congratulations on completing the course. That seems like a commitment.  I muddle through my activations. I can only deal with predicted messages. If someone asks me a question I’m usually stumped.

Right now I just use a little 3.5 mm stereo male to male jumper to go from the audio out on the trusdx to the mic input of the recorder. I plug my earbuds into the output of the recorder. I suspect that the output of the radio is too hot for the recorder. The background hash is not nearly as prominent when the earbuds are plugged directly into the radio. I want to see if I can improve this with the volume knob, or with an attenuated jumper.
thanks for watching.

Thanks Jamie.  I looked into recording audio further as I think I will be using it to help me with decoding CW later when I don't get it the first time.  Here are two videos on the subject of audio recording.  I can see where using a recorder as an audio "postprocessor" would help offset the small speaker and audio amplifier present in many QRP rigs.

(at about 13:58 Thomas talks a little about the audio)
